I just spent the last hour looking at this and it looks suspicious to me as well To add to the details already picked up 1. The fairings are not original or if they are they have been badly altered 2. The fairing decals have been put on incorrectly (correct set for the MY). The 'Ducati Desmoquatro' decals have been put on the wrong sides which has necessitated a move for the 748R decal 3. The seat unit is not original and does not have correct decals on it 4. The discs look like normal ones (not 100% on this) 5. Air tubes have CF covers over OEM plastic ones (confirmed by part number), may be the fairings are covered with CF stickers but are not original anyhow 6. Airbox should be CF 7. Damper is incorrect 8. There is a jubilee clip on an exhaust header probably for the CF heat shields where the bracket gets damaged in a slide 9. Collector looks suspiciously like a 45mm standard 748 one, also can pipes look suspiciously unblemished 10. Wheels are correct but have been recoated Need to check frame/engine numbers with Ducati but my first impression was a cat D, but may be wrong. Checking his ebay feedback he tried to sell a CAT D a few years ago without advertising as such and has been buying/selling bits for 748s and 1098/848s for a while.
seems to be popping up quite regular now for sale Ducati 996R 2001 No.23 JUST 8000miles VERY RARE and IMMACULATE 996 R | eBay
Another example of an owner in their own opinion cosmetically enhancing their bike. I'm surprised at this late date it's yellow as I read somewhere that the only my2002 748Rs registered in the UK were red. That might be bollocks but it it what was said when I bought my yellow 2001 Ohlins model 748 R. The Ohlins steering damper and colour coded mirrors were never standard but a dealer option fit to sell what was becoming an old model. The late airbox should be unpainted carbon and 2 piece. None of the rest of the bodywork came in carbon as standard. Wheels look right but wrong colour and I would need to find my front calipers to confirm if they are right or wrong but they should be 4 single pads. It looks like it has a 45mm exhaust fitted but should have 45/50mm link pipe, 50mm race cans in carbon and the matching eprom. If you can put up with the lack of original stuff and the non original stuff fitted, it's nice enough but IMO it is not the sort of condition that would make it a collector's bike. £6750 is a bit rich too. Be nice to add to your collection MOTO GUZZI ZIGALO 98CC 1958 FULLY RESTORED IN LOVELY RED AND CHROME
I've come to the conclusion that selling wise you have three streams: 1) Gumtree - tends to be cheap end old sellers who don't know what they have, are priced low to right, could be nicked 2) EBay - nicked stuff is broken or sold as no v5 track bikes, want good to strong money (always 'best there is special) 3) Classic UK - absolute dreamers mixed with real macoy at above top dollar where you normal 996 becomes a super rare, super special one off not to be confused with the other thousands of red 996's out there
I'm going to ask 'cause chiz is worried about his street cred; can you get a 3m bubble and a load of carpentry tools into the load area?
Looks reasonably well sorted apart from the paint scheme that in my opinion stinks! Also the starting price is about the real value
Has this been mentioned before ? seems to keep popping up and a reasonable price IF a genuine Strada ? Thought the rear wheel should have 'Duacti Racing' around the hub ? DUCATI 916 916CC STRADA 1997 P REG BARN FIND GENUINE 12699MLS | eBay
