Selling A Desmo? What Have You Got?

Discussion in 'Wanted' started by Gillybeans, Jan 2, 2017.

  1. Happy new year to all Ducati owners out there. I am looking for an investment bike this year as savings in the bank are almost worthless. So on that note if any is interested or knows someone who is thinking of selling an immaculate, low mileage, 1 or 2 owner Desmosedici at a sensible price then please feel free to contact me.

    Cheers Carl

  2. Less than £45k? There is one at ducati-aylesford'

  3. Ducati values and sensible don't go together right now ;)

  4. Not at those prices!! WOW! 10k for a 996S..... He's not mates with Exige, is he?! ;)

  5. Obviously not one with the money to buy a desmo, but are they really likely to increase further in value?

I mean with the idea of Ducati supposedly launching a new V4 over the next couple of years, wouldn't that start to halt the desmo appeal?

By the time you add in the cost of yearly insurance and any servicing work, would you really end up in profit?

  6. I think the Demso 'would' have been the one, if they hadn't made so many. A real GP bike for the road (or close as you can get). Maybe in 30 years when most have expired... ;)

And I agree re what actually is made as a profit. :)

  7. A Desmo will increase or decrease in value along with everything else as the economy demands. Why would this one bike be any different? Look at the thread on here at the moment about what some people sold bikes for in the past, it seems crazy now. I bought my Desmo, with GP7 exhaust, 4 years ago for a sum that it I advertised it today, the bike wouldn't be here tomorrow. I saw the prices start to turn then and I didn't buy it to make money, I bought it because I thought the market had bottomed out and that I may not be able to afford one in the future.

Yes they are expensive, but they were expensive new.

If you want one, buy one. If you want to guarantee that you'll not lose any money, stick your money in some financial institution for a couple of %p.a.

  9. I guess your right investment is the wrong word when you consider annual insurance and servicing etc !! But owning a bike like this, listening to that V4 engine, riding it and staring at it every time you open the garage door and if you get your money back after all that it is kind of an investment to me. But I appreciate your comments. I only subscribed today but the feedback I am getting from you guys is very positive.

  11. You need to find a better bank if ducatis are a better investment option.

  15. 1098R would be my choice I think: or 3 of them instead of a Desmo...

  16. FWIW I sum it up like:
I spend 10k on a couple of holidays, spend 3 or 4 weeks in the sun somewhere, having a great time that can't be repeated and can barely be remembered after a while except with a few photos that you never look at anyway.
    Or
I stick that 10k towards a 1098R that I can ride and enjoy many times during the years, and still have at least that 10k sat there if its really needed later on :upyeah:

Alas my wife doesn't follow this rationale :smirk:

Looks like Spain and Cruise this year then :tearsofjoy:

  17. That's a cheap 1098R. Your wife would be mad not to let you buy it. :Wideyed:

  18. you're missing the man logic...5-6k on a bike for rare use (track bike for example) is OK. 16k not....so its just the difference to justify ;)

Bit like woman logic of 'I saved £150 today, as what I bought would have been £300!' :)
