Really good 950 SMRs are nearly fetching that much. In KTM circles the old carbed LC8 is acquiring classic status. Owners generally loved them so much they don't part with them and ride them til they drop so there aren't that many good ones left. Perhaps it was a crashed one.

 

Yeah - 6 owners and cat C or D but now it's in a 60's BSA frame it's on an age related plate so not really an issue

Met the owner and test rode the bike, didn't go for it because the clocks had been changed when it left the country and then changed again on its return, also 5 owners.

What valid reason would there be to remove engine and frame numbers?

 

Could be stolen recovered, but you'd want documentation proving so.

 

could see this being bought and broken on ebay by a breakers.

 

I'm sure this was up s few weeks ago then relisted. Be warned: if plod have s purge at s Trackday and engine/frame numbers tampered or misding, regardless what paperwork you may have they will take it away.

I'm suspecting someone bought without really knowing what they were buying. Otherwise, why would you?! But then you see loads of cat B bikes on trackday addicts FB page, and yet they should have been crushed and cannot be sold to be put back together. Every time I see one, smacks of bike nicked and bits swapped and sold.

I agree Andy. A few quid more than you would have bought it for 5 years ago. But in these days of heady SPS and R money, it would be a nice retro bike to have for sunny days without the eye watering price tag.
