British Indy: What Happens Now?

Discussion in 'Wasteland' started by Loz, May 23, 2015.

?
  1. Full Brexit with "no EU deal" on the 29th March.

  2. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a general election and new negotiations.

  3. Request Extension to article 50 to allow cross party talks and a new deal to be put to EU.

  4. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a second referendum on 1. Remain in EU or 2. Full Brexit.

  5. Table a motion in parliament to Remain in EU WITHOUT a referendum.

  6. I don't know or I don't care anymore

Results are only viewable after voting.
  1. back again
i respond if and when. especially when tagged.
i like loz, like most on here and genuinely understand why most people voted the way they did happy to speak to him and others.
lairs and bullshitters like you, not so.

  2. Can I just point out that we UK nationals who are residents of France do not get free healthcare, we pay a percentage of healthcare costs (about 30 to 40%) just as any French national does here.
We are lucky in that my wife has an old age pension so we are covered by the UK, but they only pay a small sum for each person each year. If she had no pension then the UK would contribute nothing. If after Brexit, the UK leaves the reciprocal health arrangements then the situation will change for us in that we will probably have to pay around 10 to 12% of our pension into the French system to retain our cover (similar to NI contributions). That amount will be on top of the UK tax that I pay on my pension.
As sterling has dropped many pensioners will not be able to survive financially and will up sticks and move back to the UK where they will not be working as OAPs but will be a burden on the NHS with all the needs that older people have.

  3. Pretend for a moment that it is not a silly loz issue. It's not beyond the bounds of possibility, is it?

How do you deal with the issue of a minority who doesn't get their way in a democracy? If you are that minority (eg, the Scotchfolk in the Brexit referendum), it's easy - you complain bitterly. But what if you are the majority faction, say, the Scotchfolk in general who were against Independence, how would you deal with the minority of Scotchfolk who voted for Indy? At what point do you start ignoring the minority faction's desires? Ignore for a moment that your opinion on an issue is the only right and proper one, just act as if both sides had equally valid viewpoints.

The majority of the UK was in favour of Brexit. We have Brexit. The majority of Scotchland was against Brexit. Scotchland arguably should join the EU. The majority of the Eastern half of Dumfries and Galloway voted in favour of Brexit. The Eastern half of Dumfries and Galloway should have Brexit. The North-Eastern portion of D&G voted against Brexit ... and on and on. I know where you want the line to be drawn but what makes your choice fair?

I believe that it is forum policy to feed any and all trolls.

  4. quite easy, tangible boarder, we already comply with every eu REGULATION GOING (hence why rejoining would never be an issue and we have no debt)
those to things and the political will.

  5. Should a minority always just shut up and go away? Democracy doesn't just mean the majority always holds sway, it also means everyone is allowed an opinion and allowed to voice that opinion even if it is a minority.

  6. :Hilarious: Ah, the old Sturgeon and Salmond tactic of trying to walk away from any UK debt liabilities. :Hilarious: :Hilarious: :Hilarious: :Hilarious: Not to mention your defecit wracking up more debt as you go along. Would Scotland suddenly be balancing the books in the event of indy?

Where do you get this s*ite from? :D

It's academic anyway, as Scotland won't vote for indy in the unlikely event of a referendum, but I'll humour you. Joining the EU is never easy, ask the Turks. You may meet a lot of criteria, but Spain, fearful of a Catalan / Basque breakaway has already said they will oppose it. Do you fancy the Euro too? No? Tough luck new member state, you've got to have it. Anyway, you're not keeping Sterling if you left the UK before joining the EU again, you may want to use it, but would have no control over it. and on, and on, and on...............

  7. Yes, you're the minority on here. Shut up and go away. :Hilarious:

  8. What makes the border fair? Have you noticed how "borders" across the globe don't match up with demographics, with ethnicity, with national identity?

OK, who hacked the Duke? This post wasn't even remotely funny :D

  9. That is a very good question

I would assume that it's partly down to a few reasons, read post 5727

However, I'm also of the opinion that the only way to at least make headway in the regards of claiming back the money owed would be to simply ask for the ID documentation required.

In fact, here's an article again written pre Brexit vote by the guardian outlining certain Issues faced by the NHS, whilst at the same time doing its usual by turning things in to a discrimination or racist tone if you dared think asking for id was a good idea.

They're a very left pro EU crowd, happy to point the finger at the problems but without much stomach to actually fix them

  11. It can be summed up thus:

"I am a decent human being and I live on a planet where all the other human beings are basically decent, too."

Reality seen through a lens of wishful thinking.
