899 1199 Rear Shock

  1. Will a rear shock off a 1199 fit a 899 and are they a better standard shocker?

  2. They will fit and I wouldn't say they're a better shock, both are pretty cheap basic units. Might be better off sending your 899 shock off to MCT for a re-work if you're not happy with it.

That or buy the Nitron shock I've got for sale [emoji6]

  3. As above it will fit

Supposedly the bigger bikes have better shocks according to my dealer... haven't pushed the 1299 yet to find out if it still suffers from the same locking out characteristic

  4. MCT modification works great - I have it in my bike and well Worth it

MCT said the standard shock is actually a really good unit once this is sorted

  5. Do you know what they do to it & how much it is? I take it we're all talking about the base Sachs unit are we?

  6. It is around £200 and they machine something inside the shock tonallow better oil flow or something. Yeah it's the Sachs shock

  7. Something to do with the shims being too big and restrictive

  8. He wouldn't tell me exactly what they do (obviously they have found a solution to the problem and don't want others copying it easily) but he said something is taken out and machined down it's not a common revalve

The difference is noticeable especially on bumpy B roads where I would literally have blurred vision and bruised kidneys due to the terrible ride over bumps. I was close to selling the bike before getting this done as it was unrideable on some of my favourite routes but love the bike now

  9. Thanks Guys, interesting mod. I had thought about buying the electronic S Ohlins unit & converting to manual but good to have another option.
This may be controversial but personally I don't see the point in a full on Ohlins setup on the road where a bike is used to about 30% of what it's capable of

  10. You're right it is controversial, but I'm probably more in your camp.

The only plus side I can really see is the higher end stuff sometimes offers a 'plusher' ride

  11. I was going to get a TTX from MCT but he told me not to wast my money as the standard shock is good once it's been modified.
