Had a sit on a Hyperstrada today at the NEC bike show. I think the best thing about the bike is the decision between the Multistrada or the Hyperstrada. Easy choice in my mind, but I'll leave it up to you guys to make your own decision.
I love the idea of the new Hyperstrada. I can't wait to see it at the NEC. I have a feeling my 848 EVO might be for sale soon,
For me the hyperstrada is a little on the low side but at 6 ft 4 thats why I'm more interested in the SP and ill just buy the top box or pannier set as and when I need to tour. they do look well built though but until I get to try one its still an unknown quantity. Now it's just the wait, I might stick a deposit down though if a dealer is prepared to let me take it back subject to being impressed or not
Interesting because I am at the other end of the vertical spectrum at 5'8" so the 1200S is a little tall even with the low seat (but not unmanageable). So the Hyperstrada might just be a better fit. An annoyance for me is having to fork out the standard fit panniers as I would very rarely use them. Another factor is that I am now in the 3rd year of ownership and fortunately opted to pay for the warranty extension. Just as well as a recent problem with the instrument panel has meant replacement (£800 I am told) plus now it transpires a new ECU is needed to make this instrument panel compatible with the Ohlins suspenjsion set up (£500). Makes the prospect of post warranty ownership something of a financial concern. Hope to get my bike back from the dealer next day or two and have been offered a test ride of the 2013 1200 so will try it out just for the hell of it. But no money is going out until a test ride of the Hyperstrada has been completed.
you could kinda do what I'm doing then, just get the standard Hyper as that's lower than the SP and then get the low seat option.( I'm having the sp for height & bling) by the time you wanna tour they'll be some good (probably better) 3rd party options for luggage/panniers as the fixing mechanism has already been designed by ducati so it won't be long. that way you can have a hyper in red or black and then turn it tour orientated when it suits you. Personally I wouldn't spend £400+ on the ducati panniers cos I don't think they're worth it and the Germans will knock a set up within 3 months which will be better built and cheaper
The std hyper would probably be my choice, maybe add a little carbon bling but at least that avoids the panniers. I also prefer the solid red colour! But for now I'll sit back and wait now until a test bike is available. Anyways might as well use up the final half year of warranty covered riding before the big decision.....
There's a firm in California that do 22 litre tanks. Weird air filter re-placement but... CA Cycleworks is the firm.
Yes those are for the older models though, to be fair I reckon I'd be happy with 16ltrs on the new bikes but thanks for the info
The 22 litre tank works brilliantly on my 1100S. Not sure an 800 touring will float my boat, even if the size is much better than the MTS. Looking forward to seeing one for real mind
Sat on it at the NEC and it felt and I was told by the two friends I was with it was too small for me, I'm going for a 2011/12 Multistada standard ABS model and will add the bits and bobs I need.
My own impression of the Hyperstrada was that the lack of tank to grip might make it tiring on a long day in the saddle but i have still put my name down for a test ride. Won't know how good it might or might not be til I have tried it.
There the same bike so makes no difference, the SP is slightly taller but still not gonna tick all the boxes, for me the Multistrada is the only bike out at the minute which does!
I'm sure the strada I looked at seemed shorter than the stock hyper. then again size width wise it wouldn't change
