1200 DVT Unable To Tighten Bar End Protector!

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by ionobradley, Jan 29, 2017.

  1. Hi Guys,

Just bought some new R&G bar end protectors for my 2016 1200S and all too easy when I went to slacken the right hand/acelerator end bolt with not much effort (been a pain on previous bikes when loctited!).

Only issue is that the inner nut seems to have dropped down and I cant get the new bolt (or old one!) to reach and be able to get anywhere near to touch and tighten! Any ideas?

    Cheers
    Jono

  2. I did a similar thing when I was replacing a broken hand guard. I gaffer taped a bolt to a thin stick, stick it down the handlebar, locate the nut and get half a turn on it, which was enough to pull it out.

  3. Ahhh good idea! I've ordered a 140mm long 4ml Tbar so hopefully a little blue tac (or tape) on the bolt and some good luck will connect to the nut to pull it out. Shame the nut isn't magnetic as I tried getting it with my telescopic magnetic tool but no joy! I will make sure to have the other side pointing downwards when I do that one! Thanks for the help ;)

  4. Thanks for this, is the shaft on the tool just straight or like an Alan key? Couldn't make it out in the listing...Would it fit the existing nut? Must admit I tried my magnetic tool but looks like the nut isn't magnetic.

  5. It is straight but I you can also get a 1/4" drive flexible extension for a socket set.

  6. Use tape instead of blue tac, otherwise you will be trying to get the bolt out as well!

  7. Hoover it out? You surely know someone with a henry-hoover, they come with a long tube you could semi-tightly wrap around tube & suck the blighter out..

  8. I've had a similar problem and used a long, thin bladed screwdriver to reach in and drag it out by inserting the screwdriver in the hole of the nut, using a torch to see what I was doing.

  9.
