Wife Wants A New Kitchen

  1. Prices are always going to be varying due to size and style but I'd say anything more than £15000 fitted there's a chance you're being ripped off, unless it's bespoke joinery and completely hand made.

  2. agree with all that except the howdens stuff! It's not bad quality but I've fitted I don't know how many of theirs, 40, 50, 60? Lots! And 90% of the time there is a fuck up of varying proportions. And that's over many branches and many years. But as I said earlier, I've encountered this from every supplier and designer.
the worst being a budget kitchen company up north that basically sent out conti board panels, some with pre drilled holes some without!
had to mark out and drill most holes from dowels to shelf pins. And nothing was wrapped or labeled.
the client though he was on a winner when they came in at half the price of howdens!
luckily I was on day rate.
3 weeks that took. It was a very big kitchen mind.

  3. My last kitchen was in December for a customer who Id just done a lot of work for so was doing it for then for a favor but I charged £600 for fitting (price of my skis/bindings) finished in 2 days, kitchen was £4700 including dishwasher/oven/hob sink/tap and I organised granite for them which was £1400 templated/fitted. Not my cup of tea but customer always right haha.

  4. good work in 2 days. Depends how many cabinets you have to modify though don't it? I think that looks ok but it's hard to picture the finished. product without the tops. The island looks a lil weird as is

  5. breakfast bar rather than island!

  6. the other thing is the integrated appliances like a fridge freezer, when its a universal unit with no paper work and an appliance bought elsewhere. Have spent half a day on em before. And cheap arse dish washer's where the wind up feet don't!

  7. They went for the white silver sparkle quartz with a upstand matching the upstand to the breakfast bar height but haven't been back to see finish item. They wanted to hide the hob (going where the draw pack is) from being sat in dining/living room (all open plan now) and also abit more storage around the breakfast bar where kids do homework/wife on laptop etc.

  8. Them fucking corner carousels in flat pack form :rage: fuck off! :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:

  9. lol! Magic corners my arse! Wait till they stack em high with all sorts of shit and can't open or close the fuckers.. This is why we ignore phone calls !

  12. lil, Na, still talking shop

  13. unless you mean in the rugby! Then again, no not alot

  14. We spent an absolute bloody fortune on our new kitchen. The thing is it's great to have and use and it's partially recognised in the re sale valve if you decide to move on. Same with good bathroom fittings, two areas where good 'investment' pays off.

  15. Stu848 I will be in the market for a new kitchen probably next year after extension/kitchen has been built.
Where do you live and would you be interested in quoting me for work?
Im in the Medway towns in Kent.
    Mark.

  16. Update - went to DIY Kitchens today in South Kirkby, and was impressed by the quality (well, the wife was).
We took the Wren plans, but Wren have caught on to people using their design plans to source units elsewhere, and so, no longer include the unit widths on the summary.
Not insurmountable, as our fitter will (hopefully) be able to mark these and enable us to get a price. The guy at DIY reckoned we could get solid wood doors for the same price as Wren laminates.

  18. Good stuff pal, what might be worth doing is make a drawing with a few overall measurements on yourself from both plans but do it so it looks like you and mrs have drawn it while discussing things and go to another kitchen place and get a quote. As he knows Wren will be expensive he knows that he can get you to pay that price for maybe better doors/cupboards internals etc... when actually he may of been a lot cheaper if he didn't know you already went to Wren. Hope that makes sense, it's about playing them off each other without them knowing.
