Do any of you have experience of decent hotels based in the Black Forest area of Germany? I've been going over to the Eifel region for years but never further down towards the forest. Have had a look online but it's better to hear first hand experience, I'm particularly interested in whether they have secure garages for motorbikes Cheers

A lot of german B&B's and Hotels are now catching onto the AirB&B thing. If you know roughly where your route is taking you may be worth a try.
Ibis hotels often have secure indoor parking, for a fee, unlike a lot of other hotels. You could try this one near Baden-Baden, at the north end of the Black Forest. I have not stayed there myself though. Cheap hotel RASTATT - ibis Styles Rastatt Baden-Baden
Not a big help for Hotel suggestions, but Baden baden a great location. Plenty food, drink on offer. Nice place and at the start of the B500 (but not limited to B500!).
Gasthaus Zur Krone in Denzligen which is about 5 miles outside of Freiburg. It is at the bottom of the Glottertal valley, the 500 is almost on the doorstep. The owners are Petra and Gerry, Gerry, until recently owned a Ducati. There is covered parking which is accessed.by automatic gates. Also, on the way there and on the way home you get to play in the Vosges as well.
I don't know the gasthaus but know the area... you will not be disappointed, it's great. I lived just outside Freiburg for 6 months.
Hotel Waldblick, Schenkenzell (Home I spent a night there as part of my WDW 2016 tour. Exceeded my expectations and I'd very happily go back if I was planning a trip to the Black Forest. The proprietress speaks excellent English (good job as my German is hopeless), spotlessly clean room with swanky designer bathroom, lovely sauna downstairs to ease the aching joints after a long day's ride. My bike (and several other guests' bikes) were parked behind wooden gates well out of sight. I sat outside drinking a very nice beer eating a delicious trout with almonds (fried in enough butter to satisfy even James Martin) for dinner, while chatting to a group of English bikers there fore a few days.
We spend a week there most years, still not bored of it, something for everyone, sweeping bends, hairpins, some straight bits. Love it.
I used the Heiligenstein at Baden-Baden a few years ago and I thought is was good; especially at the price it was. Decent food too, but it is in a suburb and not walking distance to town.

I stayed there for one night off the B500 on my way back to Amsterdam for the ferry. As I said, the Heiligenstein is too far out to walk into town but I liked it here and didn't go in town. Baden-Baden is a well known spa town and has lots of touristy stuff. Very pretty. Lots of parks & history. Sausages.
