.....the 'C' Spanner "Plus" Former Ducatisti may remember my long handled 'C' spanner... "OE C Spanner / eccentric hub spanner for chain adjustment - Ducati Multistrada 1200 (...and 1098, 1198 etc) Vs my custom made hub tool. Ducati Multistrada 1200 - chain adjustment: tried the 'poxy' (ok that's a bit unfair as in it's defence it is designed to be carried in the bike's tool kit) Ducati OE 'C' Spanner to alter the position of the wheel hub eccentric cam to adjust chain tension? If you have you'll know why I've had one of these made for addition to my garage tool box!!! COPYRIGHT ANDYW" Having seen that Aussie MTS1200 owner Don K came up with the concept of the 'C' Spanner "Plus"......we worked together (well if I'm honest Don did the majority of the work!) and now have a design for a new tool. This is an aluminium prototype I've had made: Once I have the final CAD drawings I may get some of these laser cut in 3mm stainless steel.....so, who would be interested? I don't have a firm price yet but from initial enquiries the cheapest these could go out for inc p&p would be £20 but possibly a little more, say a max of £25 inc p&p Please respond to the Poll so that I can judge if it's worth going any further with this project. By the way, I believe that the 1098, 1198, streetfighter, and Diavel use the same eccentric hub ;-) Obviously this is a workshop / garage tool and not designed to be carried around on the bike! Almost forgot....the benfits: # long handle as per MKI for better leverage # less likely to slip off the hub # you can rotate the hub either way without relocating the tool
Me please, I will have one Andy, havent attempted to adjust the chain yet, but will be needing too soon!! Let me know when you want the dosh, cheers.
Very interested. Just adjusted mine (second time only!) and its a bloody pain in the ass with the stock tool.
Sorry, I'm not in the manufacturing trade or any kind of engineer so the process (accurate measurements of the hub, CAD drawings, test pieces etc) is just too much hassle with no vested interest.......no money to be made for me from this project, I'll just end up with a free tool I can use on my bike.
doh, just bought a tool but havent used it yet, this looks a much better job tho! i'll have a think about whether i want to get it and get back to you!
andy will this work on the shock???? its a fackin nightmare and ive resorted to a large screwdriver and hammer
It'll be way too big for the shock. Only way I've found of adjusting the shock is either hammer time or remove the zorsts and user a proper C spanner.
Like Nelson said....no! I guess you're not talking MTS1200 as neither the Sachs or Ohlins suspended Mutley's have manual preload adjustment with a 'C' spanner as far as I'm aware. Hammer and screwdriver method............REALLY not recommended as someone found out after regular use of that method for adjusting chain tension on his 1098! Hmmmm....I was waiting for someone to ask that ............eBay?
 only kidding mate! I'm looking at the new design and liking it - presumably quite easy to fit on the hub?? Could it be designed to be a 2 piece item perhaps?
