Well my baby is due its 2nd service with belts etc. Also she needs a new chain and rear sprocket. I've picked up a renthal 39t for a good price, just need to get the carrier and a chain. Standard is 39t isn't it? Can anyone recommend a good supplier? cheers matt
Yup the stock sprocket is 39t.....Russ at Ducati Mondo does a carrier to carry Renthal sprockets, that's got the Cush drive bobbin stopper mod on it. https://www.ducatimondo.co.uk/store...ick-release-billet-rear-sprocket-carrier.html
Be aware, please, that alloy sprockets wear very quickly. They look great and save unsprung weight, but that comes at the price of longevity. Can't give examples because I don't know how or where you ride, but as long as you know this it shouldn't be a problem. Having said that, there ain't exactly a plethora of sexy steel sprockets about:frown:
Cheers Anth. Just been looking at their site from a link you posted on another thread in the tech help. going to go for the carrier, but have been looking at the kits, then I have the sprockets as spares for the future. Any kit you'd recommend in particular? matt
Im going from using the 848 in all weathers to track only, with dry summer use. The sprocket I have is a hard anodised, which from what I've read can wear pretty well. if I do 1k miles next year I'd be surprised to be honest. matt
It'll be fine then. My mate spent a bloody fortune on chain and sprockets for his bike a month before we attacked France. Perhaps I should have checked the tension for him (he ain't mechanically minded), but halfway through the holiday we had to get him some new sprockets cos his posh ones were toast.
Just have a chat with Russ.....he'll advise/mix and match any of the components in the kits to suit your requirement. And the refreshing thing is sometimes what he advises you isn't the one with the most £££££ in it for him.
As mentioned on another thread, I have used renthal hard anodised sprockets for years and they wear really well if looked after, as good as steel in my experience.
Yup, in the real world steel sprockets are the way forward. I got an x-ring chain and JT sprockets from the NEC last year, and they are excellent, only had to adjust them twice on 4000 miles. Not bad for £85
