  5. I think the 999R Xerox is one of the best looking bikes I own. It oozes Ducati character, it has lots of exotic components and the paintwork is top quality showing glimpses of carbon. It sounds awesome and retains the chink chink of the open clutch that the new models sadly don't have anymore. As noted somewhere in the tread, this is the most successful model ever manufactured as it won every championship it entered so get it on track and find out what it's really like. Ok the 916 will go down in history but side by side it doesn't have half the exotica materials or components found on the 999R or Xerox.

  6. I never got the 999... Bought a 999R but couldn't come to terms with it. Views on its looks are obviously divided, but I couldn't come to terms with the sheer amount of latitude which that low seat hump gave you. The earlier "R"s gave me more of a reference point. Nice to know that some people, better qualified than me to comment, like it, but ugh, not for me... I sold mine to a dealer (not even as a px), just to get shot of it - literally at any cost.

  7. Had a 2003 749s, a Fila 999r and lastly a 2004 749r.

As much as I like some of the newer bikes, I can't see me selling the 749r.

As much as the 748/916 style bikes were iconic, the 749 / 999 were front runners with their style. It took a few years for people to "get them".

I like the looks, they look much better out in the real world in the sun, than sat in a show room under false lighting.

Still takes half a day to clean it, 1 hour cleaning and 3 hours sat looking at it.

  14. That looks very similar to mine, although mine has the big motah!

  15. Pierre Terblanche certainly knows how to design a nice bike bike...however the 999 it lacks the "flowing" lines of the 916 family, especially when it comes to the rear of the bike. Those rear side panels do not have any contact/continuity line with the side fairings or front of the bike.
I like the 999 in isolation or when compared to Japanese bikes of that era..but in my humble opinion no match for the 916, purely from design point of view.

    No1 MV Agusta F4
    No2 Ducati 916
Both designed by Massimo Tamburini, "The Michelangelo of motorcycle design" as they used to call him.

  16. A yellow one?

  17. Ohhh nice - and very rare :Wideyed:

  18. What are the bolts going through the lower hole where the OEM mirror would locate? Is it a bolt or a plug? M4 is max I can get through.

  19. These are the bolts. They are special snap bolts designed to break if the bike goes over and lands on the mirror. Sacrificial, instead of the mirror staying in situ and getting broken

  20. Nice idea
