It can vary a lot. I could get 200 to a tank, but on average 80-90 MPH is about 150 before I want to start looking to fill up
Worst on the road was Silverstone the other week, 110 miles and 14l went in. Luggage and 90-100 all the way. My light nearly always comes on around 120-130 and farthest I pushed it was 188 miles and added 17l I also work on the 10 miles to a litre ratio
I can't get 10miles/litre, that equates to 45mpg, and i rarely get above 40mpg. My last bike was 170 miles to dry, and I think this one is similar / worse. Generally I need to be looking around 120 to 130 miles, and 150 becomes priority. i posted some fillup figures back in June. Bradders you must try harder. On our June trip to France, one fillup I put in nearly 18l for 118 miles Actually that should be a as I had to pay for it :|
John, mine regularly does better than 47mpg and on a trip across Germany was getting better than 50mpg. Now I may not be the hardest rider in the world but I don't hang about either. Your consumption would appear to be about 15% more than mine. That's a very big discrepancy.
I've never had anything over 170 miles out of mine - in 23,000 miles of trying. 150 is closer to the mark...
I'm sure somethings up with the consumption of my 1200ST- I now get 80miles when the light comes on [urban]. On the same tank I rode 10 miles on country roads and the consumption went up from +/- 25mpg to only 31.5. Does this sound normal? Thanks
Before i had my fuel sender replaced i was getting light on at 125-135 in Sport mode and usual riding. Since then i can get 150 till light comes on and even then i still only put in a maximum of 17L when i have run it to 165-170 miles. If i am struggling to find petrol (did a couple of times in norway) then i flick to Urban and the consumption drops quite a bit. My work commute sometimes becomes a fuel consumption game to relieve the boredom and try to get a reading of 50 mpg every now and again on average whilst in Sport mode ...... 70 mph and just under 4000 revs ....... i then get really really bored and start thrashing it through the gearbox and having fun watching the mpg figures drop by 0.3 mpg at a time to the low 40's or lower
light on at 80-100 is normal max out about 120 miles got 30k +miles commute every day on m25 typical 80ish and more.. 15 mile trip u can do more but need to keep to high gear 60 70 normal speeds... bugs
Sounds like you have either a fault in the sender or something wrong elsewhere as those figures are waaay too low ....although saying that i do know of someone with a 20K single spark bike that he says has awful fuel consumption and the twin spark engines are better . I can sit at the 80-90 mph you quote on my daily 54 mile commute and still get to 130 plus miles before a fuel light The range figures you are quoting are what i used to get on a ZX636 with an 18L tank and the fuel light on at 80-90 miles was flat out on the tank with throwover luggage when i slept in for a channel tunnel crossing ...doh, my bad
Thank you all for your comments. I'm going to hold off returning to the garage till after a run I'm going on to Duke's Pass this Sunday. It will give me a more accurate mpg over this 200 mile distance. Still think my urban consumption is rubbish...
The Duke's Pass isn't going to you an accurate consumption figure. It's all up and down and very twisty. Good ride though
Just for reference i took a snap this morning on my fill up ...... still only took about 16.5 L so had 3.5L still in the tank yet range said 13 miles to go. Thats with speeds commuting between 70 and 90 something with a few blats above
