I just found that reply condescending, I am not here to be trained how to respond to posts on this forum, I reply how my experience and knowledge lead me. thats it.
Why has this topic suddenly become about you, as there are an awful lot of "I"s in your last post and why do you feel like I'm singling you out and for the second time, or have you just got it in for me as I slagged your headlights off???? Did I point that post in your direction, did I name you in the post?? I was applauding some-one talking some sense and being constructive from my point of view. Okay then, your headlights are brilliant, the best headlights on any bike on the market, happy? I suspect probably not as it appears you're after your pound of flesh. In anycase from what I've seen from this thread the majority who've replied don't even want to help the Guy and are more concerned about their bike being slated, that's not a forum I want to contribute to So won't be coming back. Since when did motorcyclists become so self absorbed? I've been riding bikes from the age of four, did scrambles and trials as a kid too. I had road bikes from 16, I'm now 47 and in all that time I've never seen these sorts of attitudes in one place. Keep your Multistradas if this thread represents the calibre of owner. In fact keep your Multistrada forum too.
I was applauding some-one talking some sense and being constructive from my point of view. Yes, I get that. I just feel that you haven't got the community here. In my time here (agreed its not that long) everyone has been more than happy to share their experience and knowledge. Everyone is a Ducati "fan", I for one would not wish to sour that. Its just I feel that you are expressing a desire that the community should act in a way that is a singular approach to assist Ducati owners, however we are all individuals. We are Ducati "fans" but we do not represent Ducati , we buy and use their products. We don't need to be castigated for that. I have found the forum most helpful and indeed this thread has offered help to the originator. You are free to express how you wish, just don't expect others to express in the same way. Please, don't let this thread decide your opinion about the Multistrada because it is a great bike which ever model you choose. As far as the forum is concerned..well it is a place to express yourself and opinions.
The OP has a moan as bike doesn't do what he expects. Some offer some advice to improve and get closer to what he wants it to be. Some agree a bit. Some say 'get a grip' Not sure about what if that is unfriendly
Well it was the tone of the OP that threw me off. A positive post might have been to ask the forum what improvements could be made to the lights and stock suspension to achieve what he's looking for. Many forum members would be happy to help out. Some have tried. But to rant and call any bike with base suspension and lights rubbish is a slap in the face. It's fine to feel that way but to insult others for their purchase is wrong.
Peace and love guys, please! Let's enjoy the life and our bikes first. But I prey everybody: do not be blind! Underline a problem all together against Ducati in this case will make their next product better and being the users of the next product we will all take benefits. @Pete m : don't leave the forum, your opinion, like mine, is valuable and important beside all the others here. All we could learn something from everybody's experience. Back to the headlights issue. One way to mitigate the problem would be to keep turned on both high beam and low beam lights. This could be done with a dirt wiring home made job or by a new software release of the dashboard firmware. I'm going to try to ask Ducati Customer Service this modification sending a mail. Maybe somebody else wants to do the same or we can write all together a mail. I wrote the same request on the Italian forum. It would be great to create a list of people subscribing this request and see how Ducati will react to meet our needs.
Your suggestion is actually illegal in many countries. In the UK you wouldn't pass an MOT and to use it in the manner you're suggesting is potentially dangerous. Merely suggesting this as an appropriate course of general action for all owners is reckless and I don't think you've thought this through at all. Any Ducati dealer making a modification as per your suggestion is unlikely to remain a Ducati dealer for very long. In fact, I know you've not thought this through because all your criticisms in your posts in this thread to-date have been poorly considered and with each new post you appear to be digging yourself a deeper hole. Please, for the love of everything sane, you have hit rock bottom and it is time to stop digging.
I'm Italian and my English might be prone to several lost in translation. I think this: 1) Is My bike under warranty? YES 2) May I modify it? NO 3) Can Ducati be entitled to provide support on his products? YES 4) Has Ducati a Customer Support Service? YES 5) Can Ducati's customers write a mail to the Custome Service? YES 6) Are the headlight of the 1200DVT Standard and 950 weak? YES (somebody agrees) 7) Who agrees is "free" to write a mail to the Customer Support? ABSOLUTELY YES 8) If Ducati will receive several mails/letters is there a chance that Engineers and Testers will investigate the problem and come with a proper well designed solution? YES, THE MORE LETTERS WILL GO THERE HIGHER WILL BE THE CHANCES TO GET DUCATI INTO THE PROBLEM. If I have to pay a Ducati more that its real costs, and this is fine for me because any company has to get his margins, I want to get also services after sales and Ducati sells beside his wonderful bikes the "BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE". Since we've paid for it, let's claim for it! Am I wrong?
No I don't think you can use this as a defence. Your English is actually very good and I can understand everything you're saying in both definition and context with absolute clarity ... unfortunately. Yes. You are wrong. Your proposed modification would contravene road traffic laws in many countries and no matter how many people write to them to request it, Ducati will not sanction it. To even think they would is just ridiculous. OK I'm out of this discussion. George Carlin - "Never argue with an idiot because they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience."
@Rainman Thank you for all your constructive comments, I would use them to try to fix the headlights... ooopss they are useless. Anyway, I perfectly know that my solution might be wrong, I'm sure indeed it's wrong before illegal actually. I don't want to suggest Ducati the solution, I want them to find the proper one for us. But I ask people not satisfied form the headlights of these bikes to claim for an improvement. Nobody should tell Ducati how to do it, they are the best motorbike designers, the should design the fix!! My opinion is that more people will report the issue at the Ducati Customer Support and more are the chances that Ducati will look into the problem before the end of the warranty.
