Hi My 2010 Multi has been parked in the garage for 3-4 weeks, but has been left plugged into an optimate. I went to start it yesterday and nothing, looking at the clock there is no flashing from the immobiliser. I took the battery off and left it on charge before reconnecting it and the immobiliser light is now happily flashing away. Looking through previous threads I understand on some bikes that leaving the on/off switch down can cause the battery to go flat and yes I had left my down as I have since owning the bike. Prior to leaving the bike standing I was getting the low battery warning for the key so last week I also changed this. My question is this if for some reason the key has given up the ghost I take it I should be able to start the bike using the button behind the headstock or at least get the dash to come on. If so I'm presuming it just a case of having a flat battery. Cheers for any help.
If the battery in the black key is flat, you can still use it as a passive key. Position it behind the dashboard display, up close; then operate the red slider switch as usual and it should work. That's Plan B. Plan C is the button behind the headstock - I hope you have set a PIN number!
Cheers Pete have just popped into the garage and still nothing. Immobiliser light is flashing away but when I push the red switch down nothing happens with the dash staying off and nothing on the engine start button. Put the key next to the dash but again nothing, likewise with the button behind the headstock. Hopefully it's just a knackered battery so will leave it on charge and the red switch in the up postion.
470four Only got one key plus the red one with the bike and I don't own a multimeter, but I think I should invest in one.
The red light on the circular dash not flashing is not an indicator of a flat battery, as after a time it actually stops flashing...to conserve battery presumably. I can't remember how long it flashes for. However, if you get nothing when pressing the red slider down, then it is a flat battery, a blown fuse, or something else electrical.
It sounds more like the key is not being sensed, I would try your red key just in case the black key has failed.
Pete and Catweazle Got the bike started today after leaving the battery on charge overnight. Had to make sure the key was virtually touching the back of the dash before anything happened so even though I've put in a new battery the key has gone US. Tried several times and on all occasions I had to have the key in the same position. Will get a dealer to have a look when it goes for it 7.5k service in another 600 miles.
The replacement key battery could be duff, this has been found before I don't think the shelf life is to be relied on, at least its back on the road now.
If the battery in your key fob is going you get a warning in the dash ring thing Mine's the same year as yours and I've replaced the key fob battery a while ago
