  2. i don't think so

  3. so i don't get it where other 600£ go to if you charged this for the same job?

  4. Done the 999 once and was fine. 2nd change was by an Independent after I asked for valves to be checked and they decided to do a belts service instead because people don't listen.

Happily do mine again. But I wouldn't touch someone else's 1198r. Happy to drink tea and offer moral support but would slink off if anything started to go wrong.

  5. It does seem excessive, doesn't it. I intend to have the valves done on the 1098R next year as it's just hit 6, 500m. I guess I'll find out then. :Nailbiting:

  6. From a review back in the day...

Hey, how about some style points for the artsy photos? I have to give Ducati a little grief for a second. I went to their website to check out the specs on the Special Edition. Any guess as to what exotic part they list first for this bike? How about this, "The 1198 Corse Special Edition marks the historic edition of a new Ducati Corse logo". I'm on the edge of my seat now! That's almost as bad as when Suzuki wouldn't change a bike a bit and then say it had "bold new graphics". Of course this isn't a Suzuki and it is loaded with with some nice bits; like an aluminum gas tank and an included race kit. Apparently you are getting everything you would as with the 2010 Bayliss rep but with the special paint scheme. Hence the historic logo!

Only going from info from the press releases at the time. Want one though, now you know they are only a model year paint scheme can I buy yours cheap :Bag: :Angelic:

  7. I have made a spontaneous purchase yesterday. So you never know , maybe I will sell it to you as I am going to forget what money look like soon

  8. most of press releases/reviews written by people who failed at other more useful jobs

  9. The below is what I'd say is a fair price for servicing from a main dealer. Ducati Preston quoted about the same for the various options.

Servicing Plan N4 - Ducati Servicing - Ducati Bikes Glasgow

M&S actually wanted £900 including VAT (I just looked at the quote) *including* the value check but not fluids. This perhaps explains some of the difference between the figure I was quoted and what Robarano paid; but not why they're charging an extra £600 to check values!!?

My local garage did the lot (except coolant) for £350.

  10. so 400£ for major service inc belts... i think i better call around again as for this sort of money no point doing it myself

  11. Just one point on my service from my dealer. My bike has waterless coolant, so they don't replace it. It probably only amounts to buttons and nowhere near the price differences some are seeing. I've dug the bill out and it was actually £360, but £20 of that was for an MOT, so £340 for the service with a bit of discount.

I think £400 for a major (non valve) service seems about right. There's nothing I'm not capable of doing myself, but they do a good job, the same Ducati technician services all my bikes and a stamp in the book with a comprehensive main dealer history is a thing worth having in my book; on this bike.

  12. "Valves Plus"
Due every 7,500 miles. Valve clearance examination and adjustment if required.
Cam belt tension check and adjustment
    Add £195.00 inc 20%VAT

*Please note there is an additional exchange fee of £2 per shim applied to all models. Typically 2 to 3 shims require adjustment. This price is created accordingly. If the requirement is for higher or lower numbers of shim replacement, this price will vary.

Wow, this seems remarkably reasonable. They say it would be more if not done as part of a service but even so...

  13. Completely agree and I would be happy to pay that for a maindealer stamp. Plus another £100 or so to check valves, which again seems about right. Another £4-500 is just insulting, profiteering and exactly the kind of service costs that gave Ducati a bad name in the past.

If, like the original guy asking questions, you're thinking of doing it yourself as you're not bothered about DSH, I'd just go to a local garage you trust and save another £100-150.

  14. Fuel filters have been off the schedules for some time now, since intro of 1098 iirc. Tbh, I've had very few, if any, issues with them either.

  15. So my last service on the R included belts, valve clearances, fork seals, new clutch (complete), a set of Renthal sprockets/QR carrier/chain and a tracker and got charged 10 hours labour. Work backwards, how long to change fork seals, 2 hours (?), an hour to do the chain and sprockets and an hour to fit the tracker. Full service including valve check (no adjustment) took about 5 to 6 hours maybe so you are looking at £390 to £470 @£65+vat/hr just on labour. Just had the valve clearance service done on the Multistrada, both heads came off to replace 3 shims and cost just under £1000. Andy

  16. I'd agree with reasonable. Not cheap, resonable. Unfortunately some of the Ducati dealers/ specialists still seem to be of the 'charge what we think people are willing to pay' mindset. So whilst the servicing of newer Ducati models is not complex, or particularly time consuming, they're continuing to charge people £1000 to service and change a few shims!

Given that some people are willing to pay it, and are sucked in to believing only a Ducati trained technician can do this work, I suppose that's good business, so hats off to them.

I'm surprised it still goes on, though for some I think it's part of the experience, so they're playing to their beliefs that we're riding a prestige brand and should be charged accordingly.
