  4. Believe it or not I was told not to worry about cost or time so long as I made a good job, the customer's words were, treat it as a labour of love.

  5. Towed a mates caterham to the engine builders for final work, then picked up another mate, drove to Reading to look at a mondeo, pointed out many minor faults to said owner, mate shook hands at a slightly lower price then went home... time to replace my blood with wine! As ever, YouTube video to come.

  6. Went to Hyside Ducati today as they could fit me :upyeah: in for an mot on the 848 (past) whilst there a customer had a Desmo rr so when he left i stood by the door to listen to the bike start up,tick over and pull away bloody lovely,

  7. Has it ever occurred to you that you work too hard and don't sleep enough? I'm pretty much convinced that people who get 7 to 8 hours a night don't get ill.

  8. I know it's that. During the week I regularly put in 15-16 hours a day, and at weekends between 2-4 hours. And my sleep pattern is shocking as I'm continually thinking about work.

To be honest if I could afford to take early retirement then the way I presently feel then I would.

  9. Going to bed at the right time and falling asleep isn't a problem for me. Its staying asleep for the full 8 hours that I can't do. Once I'm awake that's the end of it.

  10. I was reunited with Abu Simbel today. Abu Simbel is SWMBO's name for my Alfa 156 SW because she thinks I treat it as a temple. Not really true. I only vacuum it about 4 times a year and tend to only wash it when it's filthy. But after nearly 17 years and 145k miles, I am very attached to it. It has it's MOT next week and I was quoted nearly £4k to get it through. It's because the chassis needs welding to get rid of bits of rust and it was due the big cambelt service. I was advised that it wasn't really worth it as this was well over book value. So I set off to look at other Alfas I could get for the same money. I found that for that, I couldn't get anything I liked as much. Mine is almost like new in and out and I haven't thrashed the motor. So I thought, what the hell, I may as well spend the money on mine as spend it on something else.

It now has a shiny new exhaust and is spiffing in every respect and hopefully won't cost much for the next 3 years.

Otherwise, I spent a happy day feeding stuff I'd pruned into Gnasher, the garden shredder. All that future compost! Should be getting my 999 back soon but let's not get over excited. It snowed last week.

  11. That's absurd. Have you heard of work/life balance? Or are you prepared to trade your health for money? Can't you delegate more?
There must be something you can do. I remember every time I took a holiday, I fell ill. the moment the pressure came off, the body said "Right then, I'm packing it in".
You've got to look after yourself, mate. You're the only you you've got.

  12. There are people who are talented at all sorts of things. It appears that one of my talents is sleeping. I can do 8 hours no sweat, often more, but generally I'll awake after 8 hours. I fall asleep in minutes of going to bed, max. Only problem is that I can't go to bed too early and preferably need to have had some exercise or fresh air. I am currently very well rested.

  13. So very very drinking
