Hi guys, I just bought the bike yesterday from Hyside Motorcycles in Romford, an authorised Ducati dealer, but it's closed today so I need your help please. q1. Is this normal or is this a coolant leak? Basically, there was smoke coming out under the bike for like a minute after half a day's ride yesterday (I stopped a few times along the way and this only happened once). As you can see in the picture, there's some green liquid on the ground but I am actually not sure if it came from the bike. I tried to touch the liquid and it's not oily, maybe slightly more slippery than water and doesn't smell. The liquid is also cold but that could be because of the cold floor. I also called up another dealer who said there could be a problem with the cooling system and told me not to ride it anymore until after checkup because prior to the smoke, the bike was at times running at "High" temperature in the city and temp only really dropped during highway. q2. I took a picture under the bike and there's a small hole, do your bikes have this hole? q3. do your bikes have a rattling sound from the engine when you turn off the engine after a ride, like some kind of fluid/water running through pipes? please let me know what you guys think, really appreciate it! thanks!!
That's not right at all. Could be a split radiator or something, or a hose. Don't ride it, call the dealer first thing tomorrow morning.
Thanks mate I am definitely gonna have them check it over. Hope it's not too serious and they should cover it anyway
Don't ride it! That's coolant(if you taste it it's sweet?) you have a leak,it could be a split pipe, loose clip,or loose rad cap hopefully from someone doing a pre sale inspection and not putting it back correctly, insist on a full explaination as to why this has happened,if your not happy get your money back, what a bad start to owning a very nice bike!
Split radiator sounds quite serious. They didn't let me test ride it before I bought it, hope this is not the reason... I have never come across a dealer who doesn't let customers test drive by the way, have you guys experienced the same before? Yesterday was a perfect dry day as well...
Unless someone spilt washing up liquid just before you pulled up, I'd say you've got a problem there and yeah it looks like engine coolant. You must have had at least a 3 months parts and labour warranty with the bike?
I didn't try to taste it haha. But thanks for the tip I'll keep that in mind. They even did a full annual service before I bought it so not sure how they have missed it.
I doubt any dealer would flog a bike knowing full well it would do this, they'd only end up sorting it out anyway. Just give them a call mate I'm sure they'll sort it out and all will be well
I have a six month warranty but it does say it doesn't cover consumables and a whole list of things. But obviously you can't sell a broken bike and not fix it right?
Yup I'm hoping for the best, their service dept was kind enough to help me put on the tank grip (despite slight misalignment and bubbles)
Don't worry, any reputable dealer will put that right. Unless you've been thrashing it with a big stick. Steve
Exactly. 1 ride, 1 problem. As a dealer, I'm sure it's not deliberate (you'd like to think so anyway!). Chase them up tomorrow, I'm sure they'll sort it. Just a pain that it's happened in the first place.
Yup agreed especially when another customer was test riding another bike the same day when I was in the shop...
Some dealers are reluctant to let new riders have demo rides, it has been mentioned before. You might not be a new rider though. Steve
