848 Newbie 848 Owner, A Couple Of Q's

  1. Hi folks, i've already intriduced myself but I pick up the 848 Evo a week on Friday, I cannot wait! Of course the thoughts of what I want to do have started already! I just have a couple of questions which i'm sure you folks will have the answers to, I have done a bit of googling but struggling to find a definitive answer! Many thanks in advance!

    • Firstly the exhaust is standard, I love the look of the termis and assume will let me hear that v-twin nicely, however is it correct if I fit the slip ons I need an ecu/re map, and another air filter?
    • Where on earth can I get a single seat cowl? I have trawled ebay/net and can only find aftermarket, assume genuine would be better!
    • Lastly I have read a lot about suspension setups are a good idea? Can anyone recommmend anywhere around the Lincs area to do this?

  3. I'm not an 848 owner anymore, but I've tried to answer your q's.

      • If you buy the complete Termignoni slip-on set-up, it will consist of a new ECU, air filter and the slip-on mufflers. If you buy second hand and only get the mufflers, then you'd want at least a remap.
    • Where on earth can I get a single seat cowl? I have trawled ebay/net and can only find aftermarket, assume genuine would be better!
      • You probably can't get those new anymore, your best bet is to go second hand. I went for a carbon one because I couldn't find one then. If you insist on genuine, you could order a seat cowl for one of the S or EVO models (848/1098/1198) as for those models they weren't accesoires but original components. Only problem is that you'd probably have to paint it in your bike's colour.
    • Lastly I have read a lot about suspension setups are a good idea? Can anyone recommmend anywhere around the Lincs area to do this?
      • Suspension set-up is always a good idea. Can't help you with tips as to where since I live on the other side of the canal :p

    I have a 2011 848 Evo, and have the termi system and ECU remapped (by previous owner) the sound is fantastic as you can imagine

    I also had my suspension set up a few weeks ago, first time since i bought the bike 2 years ago by TW Suspensions in Preston Lancashire, so a good couple of hours away from you but the guy is extremely good at what he does, you can see the appraisals he has off everyone, when i was there two more guys arrived, one from Scotland and another from Leeds, so he is well thought of only costs £40 for his 'suspension clinic' he has set up bikes for the TT, BSB, Thundersport GB etc...

    one of my recent mods to my 848 was to fit a HM Plus SS quick shifter, which is a brilliant piece of kit, seamless shift every time on the money, there are some cheaper QS's they also sell which have got great reviews if you are ever after a QS

    there is a seat cowel here on ebay taken from a 1098.. just needs the black mould at the front? there will probably be someone on here that will have one for sale

    A rear seat cover and a Superpole seat,

  7. The seat cowl and termis are for sure a deffo, so let me get this right, If I buy the slip on termis I need the standard ecu re mapping or the plug in one already mapped for the pipes?

    I will for sure take a trip over to the suspension setup place mentioned above
     
  8. Cans - I ran slip ons with no map, as did the fella before me, no problems. I had it custom mapped and it was worth it, but not essential
     
  9. Need is a big word, you can run without the remap or replacement ECU. But to make sure your bike is running right and you get the most out of the Termis, it certainly is advisable. A remap at a reputable tuner is even the best choice (tailor made vs. generic mapping)
     
  10. I run Worx cans on mine, no cats and you can see through them. As far as I know the map is standard and it runs fine. I run the cans for the noise so different mapping will not change that. I might get a 2% power gain from a map upgrade, but doubt if I will ever notice or use that extra.
     
  11. CJS did my 848 with akros. DP flash gave 131 rwhp, full custom map 139. Considerable gain (also did timing too). :upyeah:
     
  12. No a re map seems to make sense to me so again anyone recommend anyone around the Lincs area?
     
  13. If you have a remap or dp ecu it will also disable the exhaust flapper valve which is a big plus. Unless you fit a healtech ecu fooler or similar.

  14. That may aswell have been in French as I have no idea what any of that means! Completely new to Ducati!
     
  15. If you look just inside the rhs fairing, sort of where the inside of your knee is there is a servo that opens a flap within the exhaust. You can disable that with a remap so the bike breathes better all through the rev range (think that's what it does, I've done it to mine!)

The big change with a custom remap is that they will turn off the o2 sensor closed loop stuff on the Evo models which basically leans the fuelling out a lot a small and constant throttle in 30mph limits (for example) which is why the bike is quite lumpy. Once remapped the bike was much more consistent and deffo had more grunt in the bottom end of the revs.

    The other best mods you can make are a smaller front sprocket, and a Oberon clutch slave cylinder, both will make the bike significantly nicer around town!

    Suspension wise, yeah I'll be honest my 848 evo was the worst bike I had for suspension. The rear was way too firm and had no sag at all, JHS couldn't get more than 10mm in it. The front was also really harsh so if I was buying one again I would stick with standard exhausts and spend all my money on getting the suspension sorted and the gearing and clutch sorted. They are the most important usability things for sure

    If you come along to Squires next weekend then I'm sure you'll be able to get some advice from the superior knowledge that some of the members attending will have to offer too. Will also give you an opportunity to hear the difference with the exhaust servo eliminator fitted and a set of aftermarket slip-on's to help you make an informed decision...

    I have eliminator and a set of Zards on the 1198, I also have a set of Exige's Hi-Cap cables fitted so you will be able to see the difference in starting with a set of those on. I didn't think mine was bad before to be honest, but looking back post fitting the Hi-Cap cables... It was bloody terrible as are 90% of standard Ducati's from what I can gather...

    I also have a Superpole seat on order from Italia Moto, so once arrived (should be getting delivered along with Helen's monster on the 20th) and fitted to mine your more than welcome to have a look and try sitting on it to see the difference in that area too ;)

  19. Spot on folks all great advice, very much appreciated! My list is growing for upgrades! The starter cable upgrade also seems a sensible cheap mod to do, again another had not heard of, keep them coming! Yes makes complete sense to get the bike more 'rideable' before spending cash in the termis! Although they look really nice! Re the front soricket change, excuse my ignorance but from what to what? Assuming makes it much nicer around town, but shaves too end speed, which I am unlikely to need!! And the cluch slabe cylinder makes the cluch lighter for use? Thanks folks!
     
  20. I've swapped for Renthal set up on the 1198 which aesthetically is much more pleasing to the eye. It does mean that you need to also change the sprocket carrier on the rear too but once done, will save you money next time it needs doing...

    At the same time I went down a tooth on the front (from 15T to 14T), much better when passing through towns and villages now :)
