Hi I'm new to the forum having bought a 900ss yesterday, in all the excitement of buying it I think I confused the side stand light with the oil pressure light!, anyway the oil pressure light does not illuminate, it could just be the bulb of course, is there a way I can check the bulb without taking the light box out of the dash, i.e. is it possible to connect the white wire from the oil pressure sender in such a way that it would light up the bulb?, cheers Mark.
Yes, just ground sender wire and the bulb should light. If it doesn't the likelihood is that the bulb has gone. If it does your sender must be faulty.
Thanks Dereck, I just grounded it and yes the oil light came on, then I put one end of the wire I was using in the sender wire connector and the other onto the sender and again it came on, so the plug must not have been making a good connection with the sender, so I twisted some of the fine wire strands, snipped a piece off about 10mm in length and pushed it into the sender wire connector and the plugged the connector into the sender, it's now working perfectly, thanks for your help, cheers Mark.
I have red light staying on my 1000 multistrada after start up and have replace the switch bolts into engine any idea what it could be?
pull out the wire check if there is oil inside the switch where the wire connects switches fail pretty often, i've had 3 go in 3 years. you can get a new switch from any auto factor shop for £5-£6 its the same part as vauxhall agila 2005 take the old one in and they will sort u out. if you were riding and the oil pump failed your engine would be screwed by the time the light came on.
Hi I replaced switch today, no oil in old swtich but replaced as a possible cheap fix still on from start up
i'd recommend you ground the wire as derick suggested, i would'nt run the bike until i was sure the oil pressure was ok if i were you, i've got an oil pressure test kit was about £17 off ebay, any bike or car mechanic will be able to test the pressure for you if grounding the wire doesnt work.
does the light go out when you disconnect the wire to the switch? if it does and 2 switches read low pressure you should get the pressure tested asap
