1299 Smells Of Fuel

  1. Been out on the 1299 over this weekend, both times that I have returned home, when I have put the bike back in the garage after about 30 mintues the house absolutely sticks of fuel. It has been very hot both times the bike has got home.

If I go into the garage and have the door open a small amount the smell goes away, does anyone else have this issue, its the first bike I have owned to have this problem.

  2. All the bikes I've ever owned have smelt fuelly

  3. It could be the overflow pipe(s) from the fuel tank. If the tank is near full and the engine/tank are hot after a ride the excess fuel is able to escape via a small pipe on the right hand side of the tank.

Stick your nose about half way up the right side of the fuel tank, should smell strongest around there. My 1199 stank to high heaven after a ride right next to the tank. After inspection, I found the overflow pipe had popped off so the excess fuel wasn't making it to the lower fairing via the pipe. I made the connection between a hot bike and a near full tank.

  4. Hasn't this he 1299 got a charcoal canister to catch fuel? It shouldn't smell if that's the case unless that's full maybe?

  5. I think this is US market,i dont have one on my 1299,maybe a euro 4 thing. Both my 899 and 1299 smell a bit of petrol if put away when still hot, noticed my tank venting when it was parked up in the sun yesterday, released the fuel cap and the tank was not pressurised, guess it was just the vent working.

  6. Mine smells fuelly too. Especially if it has a nearly full tank.
