See all the 'adventure' bikes in mcn today. Unless you yearn desert or mountain trails, the multi wins; 2 nd to none of them . Sent from my Lumia 800 using Board Express
I'm surprised they answered the phone. I went in to buy my SpeedTriple a while back and got flatly ignored, so me and my money went elsewhere.
What do you think of the Striple? My mate reckons it is the best all-round fun he's ever had on a bike.
It was a bit small to do anything practical, tailpack was about the limit of carrying capacity. But for bombing around on and having fun it was absolutely fantastic, I loved mine to bits and the only reason I sold it was when I wrecked my elbow and couldn't put any weight through it, which suddenly made it very awkward to ride. I do miss it, but having the MTS balances that out. Here it is in final spec, Ohlins shock, LSL rearsets, Arrow race system, lashings of carbon and other goodies.
Damn, that's a sweet looking ride. Nice to sit alongside the MTS in the garage for those dry Sundays (note to younger members- dry Sunday is what we used to have back in the day :biggrin
Sadly not, it went in p/x for the Multistrada. Now that my arm is better I have a similar project on the cards though - looking at a Monster, but with the forks off a Multistrada and jacked up rear suspension to match. That should give enough ground clearance to push the footpegs down a bit.
Biased Call me biased, but I think the mcn report is also biased....I cannot believe the multi cuts off so bad in off road....it has to be better than the Honda, and the explorer...it's way lighter, and lightness makes a big difference....put some good off road tyres on and it will make all the difference....what about the stelvio or the versus....they can't be any better. [/HTML] Comfort I have no issue with comfort on the multi...spent most of Sunday on the bike and not even a twinge...and I have a centre stand... No I think the mcn report is biased....funny how the two latest bikes are at the top of the list....Honda and triumph...I think one can safely say....read the article, look at the stats, but make up your own mind.... The explorer is a dog at what was it 259kg, heaviest in it's class, wouldn't want to put that through soft sand.
Brilliant pics that show the MS1200 as a true all-rounder. I noticed the guy in the background too.............taking his Beemer for a walk!!!
....and he's clearly on firmer terrain I bet Mr Bimmer had time for a quick snigger looking at the Mutley stuck...........but he got his comeupance ....in fairness I suspect the Mutley shot is staged?
I think any emphasis on off road ability for these bikes is utter nonsense for the vast proportion of buyers of these bikes. If you want to go off road on any of these you deserve all the hassle you get. For me normal road size wheels/tyres would improve them all for the use they are put. Even the Beemer reps say the GS is really a liability off road and that their 800GS is much better suited off road for humans, i.e. unless you are an Enduro/Dakar expert or on an official/accompanied tour and then they say the larger front wheel/tyre availablity is less suited to fast twisty road work. Unfortunately the off road and adventure (whatever that means) aspects of these bikes is probably just a fad but it seems to be selling bikes right now and that's what the manufacturers are in business to do. At least Ducati didn't use the 21" front wheel and is all the better for it imho.
I think 6/10 for comfort on the Mutley is complete bollox! It's the most comfortable bike Ive ever ridden (and I've ridden a few!)
+1 on that.......I find it better than my GS12! Obviously it's subjective to some extent and a bike's 'ergonomics' will 'fit' some people better than others, maybe because of the reviewer's size/build/weight and expectations it only rated a 6 to him (for reasons he should make clear....I haven't seen the review)
I'm 5ft 10" with a 29" inside leg & tend to slump a bit when riding mine so get a back ache after an hour. When I rode the Explorer the handlebars were higher which forced me to sit up more so for me it was more comfortable. I've just raised the bars now on mine & am possibly looking at bar risers.
Have you seen these Tony? When I sold my GS12 I put a set on for the buyer.......not only do you gain height but you can rotate the risers so that the bars are closer to you, really nice kit ;-) You'll need to work out if there's enough slack in the brake lines and cables.
Thanks Andy I think I spotted these on ebay. SW Motech do these for similar money although you made a good call on the cables etc as these isn't much slack. Handlebar Risers- Model Specific
i'm concidering getting the triumph my multi is 2003 so getting on a bit , looked at the kawasaki versey now that exhaust needs binning straight away ,multi 12 just to expensive is it 5 grand better ?
At least have a test ride to see what you would be missing!! Then at least you'll know in your own mind if justifies the difference, personally i think it does!!!
Ohlins electronic suspension, traction control, Brembo everywhere, that lot is the thick end of £5k on it's own
