959 Paint Rubbing

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by dazthephot, Apr 20, 2017.

  1. Hi all. I've noticed that it's really easy to put rub marks in the paint from moving about and the leather rubbing against the tank and side panel tops.
They aren't the sort of marks that just wipe off and I'm worried that over time I'll go through the paint.
I know it's something to do with the lack of clear coat so how do you all deal with it if you don't go down the venture shield route?
    Thanks, D.

  2. Stomp grips, tank pad, and a couple of home made patches for the top edge of the fairings where my knees rubbed..... IMG_4239.JPG

  3. Hi Jolley, can I ask where you got your silver R decals from please?
    Thanks

  4. Thanks Jolley.

  5. They are Vulturbike ones, which I think came from Conquest Carbon.

  6. As @Jolley says stomp grips are essential if you are riding the Panigale as god intended.

  8. Jolley, what did you use to make the patches for the top edge of the fairings?

  9. Some Carbon Fibre effect Vinyl I had lying around (from wrapping the mirrors on my Abarth 500!). But you could use any vinyl wrap.... or the 3M protective film if you didn't want to really see it.

  10. Thanks Jolley. I have used some 3M film, but I am looking for something with a bit of grip. I may have to cut i stomp grip.

  11. You don't need that bit down on the fairing to be grippy, you won't really gain a lot from it. If you do go stomp pad route, look for some end of line MX ones to cut.... same dimple pattern, but much cheaper. However, if I were you, I'd just do the 3M film there.

  12. Thanks Jolley. It seems that this is the position that my legs grip under braking. I am changing my seat to the race seat next week, so my position may change a bit. I will test a bit with the race seat. With the OEM seat I am having problems staying on the bike.

The MX version is a nice tip. Thanks.

  13. You can buy sheets of eazigrip and cut it to shape yourself. It isn't particularly expensive. Stonpgrips are better though I would say and my eazigrips started to lift on the edges and looked crap after a year of use

  14. It all depends how you ride. However, the seat will make quite a difference. I don't grip the tank braking, I've already moved to one side and rest the inside of one leg across the back of the tank. It is a lot easier.
I may have some bits of stompgrip left over. I'll have a look.
