Yes I would still have that veiw. Suicide is the most cowardly, selfish, wasteful and unnecessary act you can do, it angers and disgusts me that she was so self centred as to deprive her children of a mother, her partner of a wife, and her family of a daughter/sister just because she answered a phonecall/gave out info she was duped into giving, she obviously had plenty of help available to her, and a family/support network with which to share her fears/depression with, so why not use it? And before you say it, yes I have had a family member commit suicide, and these were my feelings in that case as well.(Deep breath) It was a joke, we play them, are on the recieving end of them, it is'nt worth killing yourself over them. And now the great British media are hunting down these evil perpertrators of this hidious crime, to harass and harang(sp.) them and their families to bring them to account, see the irony in this anyone? (Rant over)
I don't see why the presenters should be punished in the slightest, it's far from their fault this woman committed suicide and has been mentioned its more like 'the last straw' which pushed her over the edge. if something needs to be made of it (as it always does by bloody journos) then perhaps they need to highlight the following things instead as its all hyperthectical why she did what she did: stress in the workplace stress or abuse at home depression and anxiety who to call on supporting services and helplines why wasn't it spotted etc etc In the first instance her mental state must of been / should of been in serious question. Ok a pranks a prank but it was hardly directed at her and her uselessness in life. just think, it could of been anybody over the course of the following weeks that acted as the tipping point. You or I could of walked in to her, annoyed her at the supermarket , bumped her car in traffic, somebody could of reprimanded her at work for a mistake or even shouted at her in an abusive way (at home or out) stress & depression build up in people until they either get help, get out or snap! i think there are far more questions to be asked about her death more so than are two DJ's responsible.
Phew. If someone thinks that a hospital is a suitable place for "pranking", I suggest they get themselves a life-threatening ailment and have a re-think. In fairness and to get the other side of the argument, I will start phoning hospitals for information about patients - who knows, maybe the fun of that will outweigh the potential damage I do. I agree that the DJs are not solely responsible for the death of a woman - the nurse was already near the end of her strength before this final push. The DJs and their radio station were guilty of an ill-advised prank that, once it reached a certain point, decency should have stepped in and stopped it. As for NZDave's comments ... having suffered a bereavement yourself, I have to try to respect your point of view - hard for me as it is. However, I will say that the suffering of an individual that ultimately takes their own life is no less than the pain suffered by those so bereaved and is likely to be far greater. Greater than you know, certainly.
We are all different, we deal with our emotions differently, suicide, to me, is such a waste, a waste of everything they have accomplished, everything they could have accomplished, a waste of everything that everyone around them has contributed to them, and mostly makes me angry. I don't feel sorry for the deceased, but I certainly do for those left to deal with the aftermath, and the never to be answered questions and doubts, the feelings of abandoment and betrayal. This is my last post on this thread, I'm sorry if I've upset some, but I do not apoligise for the way I feel, and I detest the way people must find a way to apportion blame to all but the person responsible for her death.
It's only been suggested that she committed suicide as she was found dead. We dont really know for sure at this stage It should have been stopped when the radio station lawyers checked the prank out. But as usual viewing figures and pleasing the general public outweigh the feelings of those involved. Everybody involved in this stupid prank is to blame and everyone involved will carry the weight of the outcome in some shape or form. It's a sad state of affairs
Ahhhhhh, i see the PR machine ( i mean put the perpetrators in isolation while we have a think about it!) have all now got their stories together now and have gone loud to the world......with their special sincere faces on....with such catch phrases as "gutted and heartbroken" with a little "not a minute goes by where we don't think about her family", not forgetting, "When we thought about making a call it was going to go for 30 seconds we were going to be hung up on, and that was it. As innocent as that.'.....(read "we didnt mean to do it, honest guv!") it pulled on my heart strings any way! So, some rules... Fourth Bruce: No. Right, I just want to remind you of the faculty rules: Rule One! Everybruce: No Poofters! Fourth Bruce: Rule Two, no member of the faculty is to maltreat the Abbos in any way at all -- if there's anybody watching. Rule Three? Everybruce: No Poofters!! Fourth Bruce: Rule Four, now this term, I don't want to catch anybody not drinking. Rule Five, Everybruce: No Poofters! Fourth Bruce: Rule Six, there is NO ... Rule Six. Rule Seven, Everybruce: No Poofters!! Fourth Bruce: Right, that concludes the readin' of the rules, Bruce. First Bruce: This here's the wattle, the emblem of our land. You can stick it in a bottle, you can hold it in your hand. Everybruce: Amen!
Nobody deserves to be driven to suicide by a radio station joke. RIP Mrs Saldanha. Sadly, the type of person that finds these "pranks" amusing needs to be entertained. As long as that need is there, shrewd, manipulative, intelligent people will behave like morons in order to entertain them. This brings celebrity status and large amounts of money. Which means more of the same stupidity tomorrow/next week/forever, as long as the money rolls in. I'm sure the two DJ's and the radio station owner are filled with remorse, for the time being. I'm also sure that they are well aware that their media profile has now gone global and that they'll be rubbing their remorseful hands together, waiting for it all to blow over and then re-negotiating contracts. Ker-ching.
The latest seems to be that she took her life because she felt she had brought shame/dishonour on her family by her actions. Why is nobody blaming the culture she's from that instills such crap values?
Well, first you'd have to prove it was a cultural thing. I've read of instances of the shame/dishonour thing from all cultural backgrounds. The real story will never be known in full.
To my mind its just an unfortunate sequence of events, though i think the hospital themselves should shoulder some of the responsibility for such an appalling security breach. The royal accents were like spitting image, pretend corgi barks in the background. The hospital really should have been be wise to the possibility of this sort of thing happening and had a better security process in the first place.
it was with some amusing that i witnessed the pranksters' change of mood.. Royal Prank DJs: 'We Are Both Shattered' - Yahoo! News UK
