I ride a 999s out of Swansea, South Wales. Seen lots of posts over the years from people like me who struggle to reach the floor at standstill. (Accident damaged left hip and 29" inside leg in my case). Owned mine since 2007 so persevered, but over the winter took the ride adjuster off, chopped 4mm off the top and bottom, adjusted it down so that I can comfortably reach the floor flat foot! I may not ride it like Troy Baylis, but I have been out a few times, and frankly I can't notice any differences in the handling. As one guy told me "you can get lowering kits for most bikes, and still ride them OK, and if you stick a passenger on the back you get the same effect anyway. Would add that I am passed the three score years and 10 now, and also lost my left arm in the accident that wrecked my hip - (not a bike accident) so this has made a huge difference for me. If your struggling like I was, then -
Good effort mate! I have read somewhere that using a 748/916 ride hieght adjuster allows for more lowering. There is a limit though obviosly as at some point the bike could bottom out on the suspension.. but like you say , no different to taking a pillion
Respect. I put 25mm higher bars on mine. Have you dropped yokes. Mine have 4 rings showing which I think is max recomended.
I know that was directed at the op but mine had 2 rings showing ( and too stiffer spring on rear shock) and my mates had 4 rings and the correct spring and the differance in seat height , albeit minimal, made a huge differance to comfort and confidance at low speed
I read on website maybe brad black that 4 showing and 285mm ride height were good for road. I did that and set everything else at owners manual settings. Seems fine, I do 2up a lot so a proper set up would probably be crap with her on board. Mainly touring anyway only time i get knee down is when I crash.
Was that on a 999? If so how did you get the bars higher? I have 4 rings above the yoke. Really appreciate the responses, thanks guys.
I got s/h cyclecat. Theres similar from china on ebay. The reserviors were part of the kit and might not be necessary but could be built up with oe parts. Theyre a lot more comfortable but gloves catch fairing with hands inboard on full lock.
