nah, i hear yah. BB.King's da man, there's a great bit of footage of BB and James brown playing live kicking about on youtube. worth a watch. tho tbh i figured you where more of a Ben E king fan myself.
Whitely biased? With hendrix? Prog Rock? Where? Gilmore ain't PR... shaggy perms? Van Halen yes but don't remember Bert Weeding ever having one...x
Don't know about "greatest" guitarist. It's not really an adjective that means anything much. What do you base it on? Speed? Technical ability? Invention and composition? Feeling? No idea. So I voted for my favourite which is Gilmour, because I like his guitar sounds more than anyone else's. I'd also have John Frusciante in my top 3 too, for the same reason. Nile Rogers may well be in it too - surely one of the best rhythm players ever (just listen to Get Lucky). Life isn't all pentatonic solos.
One black dude in your selection and thats diversity applied then is it? These guys invented this shit. Without the dudes we'd all be hopping and shaking sticks with bells on going hey fucking nonny. No need to blow me a kiss. Ive told you before I'll get an super injunction. Ive seen that @finm. Its ace. EVH is just noodling. Might as well be playing jazz. Nice. Agree wholeheartedly about Gilmour. He has a nice melancholic sound to his melodies at times and comfortably numb is beyond sublime. Hendrix, he just copied Townsends aggression. Pete was de man. Defined a generation and then did it again. I like JH, but I dont play his albums over and over and over and over. Electric Ladyland is fine, but I play My Generation, Who's Next and Live at Leeds to death. Although I am still into The Man Who Sold the World atm alongside Leftism 22.
Alrighty, we'll close the thread by just cutting to the chase: Frank Zappa. Shall we do bass players next?
Cant believe Im the only Hendrix voter! Mick Ronson should be on list. Wilco Johnson has great unique style.
Bass? John Entwistle or Bootsy Collins....move along. The former gets my vote with the latter a close second. He even has a cool first name.
I also missed Trev Bolder. But JE is the best there ever has been or ever will be. (edit: shamelessly forgot tony visconti too)
Theres also a enormous amount of classical guitarists like Bream, Williams, Kraft, de Lucia that deserve a shout. I went to school with J Breams son, Ben. Next time I bumped into him was in Pentonville when they shoved me away for 1wk for not paying my fines for driving offences on Lambrettas during the 80's. Funny how life works innit.
Wait wait wait. So we do our speeding, pay our fines so that you can spend a week in some resort ... paid for by our fines? Not sure I like that.
