Having a look at my rear shock and was wondering what you have yours set at? I have a 2017 Pikes Peak DVT. Rebound and compression seem to have 24 clicks each and the hard soft twisty jobby preload I assume seem to turn forever. Enough to give me a blister. I've stuck the rebound and compression at around 12 clicks in the middle and tried to get my twisty H -> S preload around the middle too. Any thoughts or directions would be welcomed. I have a 2015 DVT (Standard Model) and have set the rear preload to 15 clicks out from fully in. This is quite a bit softer than when I first got it, but it's early days yet, so will report on how it goes. I got this setting from a guy on a forum somewhere who is 95 kg and was not carrying a pillion or luggage. Don't know if your shock is the same as mine though...? There is a good video on MCN's youtube site, where a guy from Hagon explains all about static sag, laden sag and wheel travel, etc. This is all affected directly by preload settings.
Thanks for this. So I am not a million miles off then. I have the Ohlins suspension. I'll take a look at the video. I think I need maybe another person to help me sort the static sag etc. Might just have to fork out some coin at the dealers as they offer this service.
I have a brand new Pikes Peak with Manual Ohlins and have had to flatten (set at fully counter-clockwise) the rear shock across all three settings to get over the brittle/jumpy feel at the back end. I'm hoping the shock will soften soon and give me more control across the settings range. I guess its because its a racing shock and brand new? I'm now just going through getting the front end right, which for me is more of a challenge as it came with the pre-load at a maximum and the handbook / manual doesn't make sense. It indicates the 'sag' should be set at 7mm (for all but Enduro riding modes and 10mm for Enduro mode. but I'm struggling to relate that to turns on the hex nuts on the top of each shock, until I get someone to help me actually measure the fully extended reach of the fork (while I pull it up with the front brake on). It came with the forks set at max pre-load, 17 clicks back from max for compression and 18 clicks back from max on rebound and was all too stiff and jumpy over bumps and in bends. So, again I'm starting with setting the rebound and compression to soft as possible and working back from there on a trial and error basis. All part of the fun of having a fully adjustable racing suspension, I guess.
Has anyone sorted and recorded their suspension setup on the 1260 Pikes Peak? I would be interested to see a baseline from someone who has gone through the various trials if willing to do so. New owner here and feel the setting the bike came with is out in left field. I am a 95kg rider.
