Why No 899/959 Special Editions?

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by camelfarmer, Jun 11, 2017.

  1. Straight off the bat the supersport had a sportsport s with Ohlins and other upgrades. And in the past with the 848 etc there have been evo or sp or whatever editions. Is it just that they think that the people who wanted those upgrades would go straight to a 1199/1299 s?

I know you can buy all the aftermarket bits and upgrade the bike yourself, but that costs more and surely ducati would rather make that mark up themselves?

(tbh I'm really bored and looking for things to talk about)

  2. Go and Polish your bike or something!

  3. There is. Look harder.

  4. I'm at work, but nothing going on at the moment. Watched the motogp, watched 2 hours of bouldering, watched everything else on the internet...

There is a Special Edition 959 limited to 25 numbered on headstock has lots of carbon, underbelly cans etc £17k ish if you can find one now. or 959 Tri Options cup edition same sort of thing but not limited, less carbon but nice Akra's underbelly, free tracker and race bits etc...just got one, Nice!!!

  6. See. Told you.

  7. Not proper Factory one's though are they - just done by Ducati UK to sell off old stock like the awful AirWaves 999/749's

  10. They are still special editions? Old stock? 959 is still current model? Also the Tri Options cup has $4k worth of kit for £1.5k, bit of a saving if you bought a standard and wanted to add extras! Just saying.
I have now heard from a Ducati dealer on Friday, that they have now stopped making the 1299 he can't get anymore! Replacement New model may be a V4 now??

  11. No they are not - dealer and country importer 'special editions' have never been recognised apart for sellers - like the odd AirWaves 999 that crops up with a printed A4 piece of paper from Ducati UK - old stock or bikes that weren't shifting, simple, not special. That doesn't detract from the bikes btw - but they will never be anything other than a base model with mods and never a Ducati Special Edition model.

  12. Every Ducati SE starts as a base model unless you go super Exotic like Desmo or Super Leg'er, anyway most SE i see them produce are just paint jobs badged as SE. Not sure 959's are not shifting even with the God awful standard cans on!! UK and Europe spec'ed bikes that is.

  14. You see this before.... 2 mins in, best arrival at crag ever.

  15. Who's pretending? I like it.
My point was that sticking on a paint job and calling it 'Tricolor' or '848 evo Corse SE' isn't that special either!
What's your Ducati special edition then?

  16. I think they mean that since it's an Italian bike but the 959 performance is a UK only bike put together by Ducati UK it's not an actual Ducati special edition. Doesn't make it a bad deal.

  17. Makes it even Rarer then!! :) lol Off to bed now
