Anyone had clutch problems mine packed in coming back from cornwall 2016 pikes peak. Air got into the fluid so I had no clutch on the lever got it back home and took it to Ducati shop next day was told it's a common problem when it gets hot. Replaced master cylinder 3 weeks later happen again but this time no fluid in reservoir
Yes. I have changed the clutch slave sylinder twice in 20000 km. Both times due to leaks, I could see the level going down, so I refilled brake fluide before I got air in the system.
Can you confirm that your dealer replaced the master cylinder ? In 21 years of riding Ducatis, I have only ever had one clutch master cylinder die on me and that had been stored dry for several years in my spare bedroom. In contrast, I have changed the slave cylinder on every Ducati I have owned. Andy
I'm not sure if it was on this forum, but I seem to remember someone saying that they had problems with the slave cylinder, and on close inspection it turnd out to be a fault with the push rod, something about the ball at the end gripping the rod and spinning it in turn that spun the piston in the slave cylinder and eventually damaged the bore that the seal seals against. but don't hold me to it it's just something that popped up in the back of my head as I was reading.
As pre-preemptive maintenance, I replaced my clutch slave cylinder with an Oberon one as I've had clutch slave failures on previous bikes (Aprilia and KTM) and did not want to have another one. I put the OE slave cylinder under the seat wrapped in padding as a spare.
I've had the same or similar problem a couple of times, both when the bike was very hot and when I'd been feathering the clutch a fair bit, either in town or while filtering down a motorway. After a rest and a few pumps on the clutch lever it seemed to recover. There have been no obvious external fluid leaks, although this time the level in the reservoir has dropped. The first time (about a year ago) the master cylinder was replaced...it's in the dealership for the same problem as I type and I don't yet know what the conclusion of their investigations/ruminations will be.
Turns out to be leaking slave cylinder this time. New one fitted but how long will it last this time.
The dealer's investigations into my identical problem were inconclusive - they had the casing off to check internals and all appeared fine. This time they just changed the fluid.
