how come recent carbon bits look so different

  1. Laquer a pointless gain in weight????

I think we need to keep it real here.......I'd rather have my carbon protected from the sun's UV and risk being too heavy.

Note to self.....must have a weight saving shite before my next ride.....even a piss will do for my over exuberant lacquer.

  2. When anything that will help to shave off half a tenth on lap times is a good thing in top flight racing, then yeah it is a pointless gain. I wasn't on about on road bikes lol.

Edit: I would say the DP stuff on road going Panigales etc is lacquered with a matte lacquer.

  3. I have seen the error of my ways and spent the entire day sanding all the lacquer off my expensive carbon parts as I haven't saved as much weight as possible.

tomorrow I will shave off all my hair, have colonic irrigation to purge myself of all shit and fill my tyres with nitrogen. Weight saving complete!

  4. Clearly people have failed to grasp that I was on about pieces of carbon you may find on the likes of WSB and Moto GP bikes.

  5. i don't ... doing some admiral cup yacht racing many moons ago, i remember polishing 60ft masts to loose friction and 200 grams on a 6 ton carbon and titanium boat...

those boats were lifted out of the water every two days at 1000gbp a lift to save 5 kg of antifouling paint...

at the highest level, there is no sense in doing things halfway... that's why it s all so ridicously expensive...

  6. So why do they paint it and then lacquer it in all top flight racing, including F1 if it means that much?

  7. i must remember to cut my finger nails :upyeah:

  8. It'd be very hard to distinguish different riders/drivers of they were all running round in a carbon livery now wouldn't it.

  9. In days past Mercedes racing cars were silver because they just polished the aluminium body to save adding the weight of paint...

  10. That looks like 1K carbon weave, pre-preg on a roll normally ends up matt look after its been cured, there's not as much resin as in the larger 2x2 weave, if you want it shiny just use cutting compound and a buffing wheel etc.

  11. and another scientific input ! tx

  12. A bit like the Red Bull rookies series in black and white
