Recommend a double bubble tinted screen and some bar end weights. My trip to the alps highlighted that I need a double bubble, what do people recommend? same with bar end weights. Both the tips of my index fingers have tingly white finger and so I need some end weights to hep mitigate this. Any recommendations? Many thanks.
The only one I've found so far that's sufficient is the Ducati Performance one. I had the Puig one before but although higher than stock it was not high enough. I looked at a couple others and they were much the same.
Watch out with double bubble screens and cracked dashboard displays. Search on here for anecdotal evidence that the former causes the latter!
Dp screen worked for me, the standard bar end weights are very heavy , I cannot see many after market one being much heavier , I have dp ones on mine and they are much lighter, may be change the grips if you have the standard ones still fitted , pro grip seem to be the most popular.
Ive put my grip buddies back on the 1299 from my old 1198. This will mitigate this methinks. Wasnt aware of anecdotal about screens and cracking. Is there suck a thing as a UV film to place on screens in existence?
I keep the stock bar ends because they are heavier than the aftermarket ones. I've never had an issue on the Panigale but I'm very light on the handle bars so that might be why. Oddly enough after saying I'd never had an issue on the BMW S1000RR on another thread I ended up with numb feet and hands coming back from Belgium on it last weekend!
TBH, my problems prob stem from pressure on the bars under braking. So the grip buddies will help me there. They did on the 1198. I'm still getting used to the seating and slide forward under braking as i couldnt grip with my knees sufficiently and when its 34deg, it gets very hot and you need to open your legs to get airflow to cool the arse & thighs down. This isnt an issue really when its less than 30degC air temp. I'd started to get used to entering the corner with myself already positioned to one side and my knee up against the tank and sitting on the thigh. This meant I could relax my grip under braking and take the strain on my thigh and pegs. But by then I'd already fucked my palms from the stress. Theyre still sore today. Ive always been heavy on the brakes. I also like EBC at low so I can carry speed into the corner. I put EBC at full for a while and that helped but I found i turned in too early and had to re-adjust. This is the problem with having a new bike for a week before I took it to the alps for a monster around. Still, I know its foibles now and will have it sorted soon enough. Ive ordered a DP double bubble and I'll buy some clear UV film for screen too.
How are you finding the throttle ?, the standard set up is quite sloppy and holding a constant throttle mid corner can be hard work for some myself included and I was holding the throttle to hard to try and keep the revs constant , throttle spacers cured the problem . I always leave a glove or my visor cleaning rag over my dash when parked up in the sun.
I noticed that Simmy. I was gripping right up rather than middle to end. Its taken me a while to get used to the throttle response in road mode. I'll try some throttle spacers too. I could hold a decent steady throttle thru the corners ok though, but I may have been gripping extra hard as I am used to a bike with grip buddies and they thicken the grip. Doesnt help that Ive broken both my wrists twice previously, so my hands are a bit battered. Plus Ive only 2 fingers and a thumb with any strength on my left. Thanks fuck for the blipper and qs.
I wouldn't even leave the dealer without it. Pretty much all the problems you describe above would be alleviated with it. I dont quite understand how the grip buddy things work but I'm pretty much riding finger tips the whole time other than heavy breaking where I'm still trying to avoid too much weight through the bars when possible. I know what you mean about this being difficult on the Panigale though.
I agree, tank grip will likely scupper all the probs Ive had. But new bike, new probs to discover and all that. Tank grip never really helped me on 1198 as it was too high on tank for me mostly. Thus under heavy braking my palms suffered, this is where grip buddies help. Plus they make the bars thicker and thus I dont have to close my grip so much. Theyre foam too so vibes are dampened. They work for me but I guess theyre not for all. I try to ride finger tips, but I kept bleeding sliding until I altered my seating position pre corner. That helped a lot. But I'd already done the damage by then. I was a day or so in before I got the hang of it. Im not a hanger offer usually, I tend to be old school in line gripping with my knees and flicking in with hips. But changing to hanging off stylee helped a lot. So I just change my style to suit the bike. Prob stop me getting right to the edge of my tyres which I tended to on the 1198. I'd scrub the supercorsa logo off them. Prob not a good thing. I know I lean too much sometimes when I dont need to.
Supercorsas are built to lean anyhow so not a worry unless you are dragging your elbows around the roads I was surprised when I started racing this year how many of the really fast guys are proper old school and hardly hanging off much at all. They are just slamming the bike down on it's ear swantz style. The argument is that it unsettles the bike less than if you are clambering around all over the place. I think it's also to do with the type of bike; the Panigale works much better if I hang off it like a monkey and it's not prone to getting unsettled like say the shorter R6 that I've been racing.
I tried the ducati alloy bat ends and I did not get on with them, thought the vibes were worse for me but this could be a what your used to thing haha. decided to buy some design corsa stainless steel ends as cheaper than the titanium ones and thought they will be heavy. was right they look great and are the same weight as the originals but surprisingly shiny which match my brake lever ends.hardly get any tingling now but again this could be down to getting used to riding it again who knows.
