Hi guys, Just by curiosity, what´s the level of comfort of the Ducati Sport 1000 when compared to other Ducati models. Style - i don´t say anything else apart from IMO it´s the best looking bike ever! Engine & Power - i don´t care less with those looks. So what is left is comfort ... and without trying one i can´t say anything about it so i´m asking you Ducatisti to say your justice. Thanks
Can't comment on the Sport 1000, but I find the GT1000 to be very comfortable both solo & with a pillion.
But they are both very diferent bikes aren´t they? I´m interested to know the Sport1000 ergonomics when compared to other Ducs
I had a Sport Classic S and a GT1000 Tourer in my garage at the same time. The GT was extremely comfortable and I used it for touring abroad, brilliant bike. The Sport Classic was a great fun bike, big grin factor and a joy to look at.Would I do distance on it-no way, would I do town work on it-no way.I only used it for 50 odd mile rides as I found it to crippling to ride much further. It could be that my 5ft8in frame was to small or more likely being over 60 I was to old. Anyway I sold both of them and bought a bike more in keeping with my years!No-not a Diavel, though I did test ride one, ended up with a very sensible Streetfighter 848!!!
Ouch!! Is it that bad?? I´m 37 but i ditched my Ducati 848 because of comfort Is this Sport1000 even less comfortable??
I think that road tests at the time were less than complimentary about the comfort.I did ride an 848 once and I would say,for me ,it was more comfortable. Interestingly, for me anyway,is that the MH900E that I have,is more comfortable to ride than my Sport Classic was,but if you read the specs it shouldn't suit me at all as it was designed around the frame of someone much taller than me!
They are famously uncomfortable. The sport and the S were heavily criticised by the press for being uncomfortable- but then I would question most of what journalists print about any bike as they only have then for a very short time. Theres a couple of reasons for this, one is the relatively low bars but this is exarcerbated by the seat height and distance from those bars, the bars are also set at an angle that isn't ideal for comfort and the levers aren't in line with your arms meaningyou need to bend the wrists slightly to pull on them, this combined with the heavy clutch means arm strain is much more noticable than on other sports bikes. However.... All of these issues can be dealt with, taller riders(which I'm not at 5'10") seem to find them more comfortable. Higher bars were available for them as an option, on the S this was trickier to deal with as the fairing got in the way, the S bars can be raised slightly by removing a roll pin spacer holding the bars down from the top yoke and sliding them upwards until they touch, I seen a few owners remove a small part of the upper inside lip of the fairing to avoid clearance issues.( I haven't). It is possible to rotate the levers to suit your riding position though this means removing the small locating pin from the lever clamps. (again, something I haven't bothered with) I think standard SS or ST bars fit, easier to do the unfaired bike than the S but I've never tried any of these. I've had my S since 2008, at first I found it a strain, but the best comfort mod for me was the fitting of a bigger clutch slave, this immediately made the strain on my forearms much easier to bear. All the rest of it is just a matter of getting used to it, it really isn't that much of a problem, I was well used to a 916 riding position, the seat/bar heights aren't too far away from this but the stretch is more pronounced. If you want one get one, but dont buy it for any other reason, if you want to tour Europe on it you can but a Multi or ST may be easier on you. If you just want to razz about and enjoy doing so its perfect. Check out Sport Classic - Ducati.ms - The Ultimate Ducati Forum , probably the most active forum dealing with the SC series, just like any model specific(multistrada:wink: ) forums you may read more about the problems than the good points but it'll give you an idea of what to expect. I love mine, the aircooled DS engines are pretty much an ideal roadbike engine, all the rest can be sorted.
Saw a Sport Classic 1000S with raised adjustable clip-on bars in a showrooom a few years back and had a sit on it. I'm 6'1" and it felt ok. I had been considering 1 myself when they came out but was put off by the riding position(and the price). Considering this bike was partially aimed at the born again market the low bars look good but are possibly why it didn't sell too well. Most bikes can be altered to suit, if you want one get one and make it fit.
Amazing post! I went to see one yesterday - beautifull bike! I have had 3 Ducatis so far and none had the impact on me this one has. It has the stock bars mounted but the owner has the raisers that were made a few years ago -he doesn´t use them because he likes the style of the stock ones better but he said the with the raisers mounted it´s a completely new bike. Seat height was perfect for me, and what i felt was the thr riding position was a bit stretched when compared to my previous 848. It´s the kind of bike that makes you think "i don´t care, i will suffer but it´s a damn gorgeous looking bike"! I´m seriously thinking about it
Go for it and enjoy. You shouldn't lose much when you come to sell it.I had mine for 2 years and sold it for what I originally paid for it.
That was an excuse i told myself to buy a Multistrada It worked In 12 Months i had the 848 i have placed 12000Km on it ... it makes 7500 miles in 12 months
