I bought a garmin 595lm just to use for my trip to assen and the bloody thing has proved next to useless. It refuses to recognise France. I couldn't even plan a route on the channel tunnel from either direction. When I'm in France it won't show me even being on a road and when I select a country to search for a destination France isn't even on there. My buddy that I rode with had the garmin 540lm and his has been faultless. As a work around I have the garmin app on my iPhone so I started using that with the USB power cable in my map pocket of my tank bag. Would you believe it, the USB no longer charges either. #bloody frustrated Any suggestions other than the bin?
Sounds weird in that it won't recognise France. My 660 does but I know my partners Tomtom she usedbin her cat had issues and you needed to tell it you were in France. Sounds like an email to Garmin for them to sort out as it should work. If it's new they will probably just swap it I looked to upgrade so know they aren't cheap
Are you sure your maps cover France? You may have a UK (& Ireland) version rather than a full European one, hence no France maps. Expect to be royally shafted if you want to upgrade to full Europe maps...
Very strange! There might have been an issue with the France map and it might need an update? Not something you can easily check though!
I since found the answer from another forum AFTER I made it home lol. It turns out garmin split Europe into north and south when you update. If you don't update garmin express first you'll only get Europe north missing France. Not sure if there was a garmin express update available last time I connected, if there was I certainly wasn't prompted to download it. The 595lm still needs to be returned to the seller and the USB charging point still doesn't work!!
