The best bit came when I had wrapped the packing around the perforated pipe........ .....I had previously been advised that the packing when wrapped should feel like a mattress rather than a quilt, so I probably wouldn't need all that I had been supplied....... ....so there I was with this long white blanket, thinking how to hold it on the pipe......... Ah.....masking / drafting tape, 3 short pieces to hold it while I started wrapping (the adhesive dries out with heat and age....and probably burns off) ....and I'm looking at how much blanket there is, and thought 'b*llox' just keep wrapping and use all of it.... ....by the time it was all on, it was a bit larger than the can, plus my cans have a plate and projections inside (hanger mount points etc), so I was thing how in hells name do I get the can on..... ...genius struck.....I have some nice slippy neoprene sheet.....cut a six in wide bit, long enough to project from both ends of the can......laid it so it was over the projections, and gently worked the can onto the packing.......lining up a couple of pre-drilled holes as I went.... ...when it was on, I just pulled the neoprene strip out.......job done. (well apart from all the riveting). AL.
good thinkin!! got some stainless cans now, cheap, worth gettin just for the bits, may resleeve in carbon tho
Dont p*ss about with wrapping glassfibre like your wrapping up your dead aunties best bone china, just use this stuff Acousta-Fil® PTX - 800ºC --- Thermal Velocity | Hi-Performance Exhaust Wraps and Heat Shields - Made in Manchester, UK. Cheap, very easy to apply and works well.
Good product......but as I had too much else on my mind, I forgot it was available and used E-glass instead. AL.
