"The predictions for the property prices falling are because the most expensive properties in London are no longer selling like they were and it has a trickle down effect." Maybe moot, but the indication is the slowdown is mainly due to the increased stamp duty (increasing taxes reduces the overall take). A terraced house (130m2) in the great leader Jezza's manor is an average of £1.3m which would attract a duty of up to 10% (banded) but approaching £90k on a sale. That's a lot of tax to fund on top of the purchase. Possibly Osborne intended to slow down the market when he increased the higher band rates.
I was only replying to him because I thought we had an obligation for care in the community? I thought it was odd when he was saying sterling is lower and the top end are becoming cheaper so everyone was running away from bargains. You live and learn
"Won’t you join our Common Market? said the Spider to the Fly, It really is a winner and the cost is not too high, I know De Gaulle said “Non”, but he hadn’t got a clue, We want you in, my friends and I, for we have plans for you. You’ll have to pay a little more than we do, just for now, As Herr Kohl said, and I agree, we need a new milch cow. It’s just a continental term believe me, mon ami, Like “Vive la France” or “Mad Anglais” or even “E.E.C.” As to the rules, don’t worry friend, there’s really but a few, You’ll find that we ignore them – but they all apply to you! Give and share between us, that’s what it’s all about You do all the giving, and we all share it out. It’s very British, is it not, to help a friend in need? You’ve done it twice in two World Wars, a fact we must concede, So climb aboard the Market Train, don’t sit there on the side, Your continental cousins want to take you for a ride..." Yep, those rascals. It's not often mentioned but in 1964 when the then tory government was leaving and labour was coming in, Reginald Maudling wrote to his Labour successor James Callaghan, "Good luck, old cock ... Sorry to leave it in such a mess." It didn't mention money of course but they do seem to like leaving notes
