Looks bloody awful but it wouldn't bother me if it was going to be a track bike as the body work would be replaced with some sexy carbon fibre anyhow. Difficult to justify a £35k track bike that needs another three or four grand spent on a race exhaust though. If I could sort that stuff then I'd love to have one as the engine will be immense.
Why buy the special edition to take all the 'special bits' off and track it? Surely a 15 grand base model with a few quid spent on suspension and fairings would be better I think in the flesh this would look really good. It's a bit garish in photos but in reality would look really good
If this is Euro 4, do you reckon there might be a Panigale-based Streetfighter in the offing next year?
OMG Hideous paint scheme!! Utterly disappointed, but as others have said, I'd ditch the stock plastics anyway and paint the replacement bodywork in a scheme less resembling that drawn by an 8 year old with crayons.
Hmmmmmmmm- I actually like it. Wouldn't spend the loot on it though. Too many specials become not special.
Looks worse in the flesh, can't see them making a 1299 sf as they have taken out the 1299 production line and replaced it with the v4 line.
Because the bike isn't really about the paint scheme, it's about the engine. The 1199R is the same. It doesn't scream out on the marketing spec like the big power numbers but the light weight engines are amazing. The active suspension of the 1299S is better for the road, this is very much a track machine despite it being a limited edition and all that.
1299 is not a homologated race bike.... I strongly believe Ducati used the 1299 as some sort of bridge between the 1199 and the V4. Now they are trying to rip a shit loads of monies using the Limited and Final magic words. How can they justify 20k above the base model? I would chose a 1199R anytime....the "homologation special" makes it more desirable.
Also got one on order, but please not red wheels. If that's what Ducati release they have done a first class job of making the final V twin look cheap, after so many beautiful bikes they bow out on an all time low. Once again, red wheels, why... Have they also put them on the WSB this weekend to ease the disappointment?
I also have one ordered which is due for delivery in just over a week. Doesn't come with a race exhaust, only mirror blanks and plate hanger blanking plug. VERY disappointed it isn't limited numbers
It's not very nice is it. Do you think they've launched it more for the American market? I mean it genuinely looks like a bad taste after market paint job, or some of those cheap Chinese fairings where they've tried to colour match from a photo. Sorry, but at £35k I'd be expecting more, spose if you have the money though it's your call. What's a base 1299, £15k? Wouldn't £20k spent on a base 1299 be a better idea
I take back what I said about the looks. The official pictures look much better. I'd be seriously considering this if it wasn't for the road exhaust system putting me off. I like it a lot now I've seen these pictures. http://www.motorcyclenews.com/news/new-bikes/2017/july/ducati-1299-panigale-r-final-edition/
I just think it's the wrong shade of green used and also the red wheels seem like the wrong shade. Even in the video link most of the shots are shown with the green in the shade or in the dark, I reckon it's a bit marmite in the style department.
I think it's really nice. I think I'm the flesh it will be stunning.ducati are no mugs when it comes to styling - I'm sure it works. Gold wheels would have looked better but at least this is a scheme they haven't done before.if you really want the anniversary or tricolore paint scheme you could buy one of them I suppose but at least this one is unique. If they had painted this the same as the R or tricolore or anniversary people would have moaned about it not being different too
