Mine was a Centurion open-face,and then my mum bought me one of these... She paid a fiver for it second-hand virtually unworn. The chin bar was riveted on,(rivets covered up with a strip of chrome chequer tape. and the chin bar was covered in black vinyl like the roof on me dads Hillman Avenger...very stylish!
Mine was a shark rsr, it was ok but on a budget, bought a blue iridescent visor from brands hatch WSB, still have it now. Why do we hold on to old lids I have 4 now ?
Same as you a yellow open face Centurion. Had a clip on peak and a visor that was held on by a rubber band that fitted on to the peak. Loads of protection. Regards Steve
I wish I'd held onto mine. That pic is the only result from quite a few hours of Internet surfing, there just don't seem to be any about. I'm trying to get hold of a a Stadium pivot visor to go on my open face, like hens teeth in good condition. My advice, bag up your old helmets and stick em in the loft, they'll be worth a good few quid in years to come.
1985 - Black n Gold full face Nava, would have looked good on an old Bevel, but I was on a CB100 then. Don't have it anymore, some tw*t nicked it from a pub.
A Shoei Raid 2 with the Paranoia paint scheme. Basically two threatre clowns on either side. Ive still got it somewhere
I can't remember what my first helmet was. It was open-face and probably a Stadium or something similarly cheap. It was replaced with my first full-face, an Owen, the first full-face helmets made in the UK. I was the first among my mates to have a full face and it was a few months before I saw another.
I remember one of my early ones, although I don't really want to...... ...Make unknown (had a black winged boot logo) white open face, which also had a clip-on full face thingy which clipped onto the peak studs.... ...The visor clipped on by two studs onto the full face bit, so it was either on or off. Awful thing. After that it was a black Cromwell full face, then switched to AGV.
The Kocinski rep with the eagle (pinched off KR's eagle helmet) reportedly gave rise to the following story: Some bloke in a Californian bike shop, hummng and hahing over which lid to chose, finally said, referring to the Kocinski rep: "Give me the one with the chicken on top."
Mine was a red Kangol full face. The visor was like a barn door and clipped shut on press studs. That was replaced by a Yes with motorised visor. Loved the idea but it had a mind of its own when it got wet.
I remember the Yes and always thought it was an utterly pointless innovation. If you could raise your hand to the visor closing button, you could raise your hand to the visor to close it (doh!). A bit like a button on the remote control for opening the drawer on your CD player - what's the point of that? Either you're going to put in a CD or take one out, and you have to be there for that.
Thik it was a blue open face centurion with clip on peak, I was only 4 ! Then an MX type but cant remember what, then it was the moped (DT50) so had an AGV but when I was nearly 17 I swopped the DT for a C50 and bought a Shoei GRV Wayne Gardner Rep, it was £250 and worth twice what my bike was ! Wasnt so bad when I passed my test at 17 and got my KR1. My brother had the Kocinski rep Shoei and still has it in the box in mint condition.
My first road lid was a Beori Big, in 1984. I replaced that a couple of years later with an Arai Supervent Freddie Spencer rep. I still have it on my workshop shelf and still can't believe how cool it still looks!
