Maybe Obama will be aconviction politician the next 4 years, as you say , he wont worry about re-election. I can`t remember where I read it but someone said all politician should have a very specific and quite short time in power so they can all do what is right once in power as opposed to promising sweeties and fluffy kittens all the time. Did anyone hear Margaret Hodge today complaining that that the BBC payoff to George Entwistle was way too high and out of step with public thinking. Regardless of the payout, isn`t it marvellous when they are so keen on public perception and wishes at times like these but happy to ignore them when the MP`s KNOW BEST, like capital punishment for example.
Couldnt agree more. Its all about 'peoples champions' etc (since when did peoples mean anything?!) I would rather have a political set which aimed at delivering ideals and the right results, whether popular or not. Some of the austerity measures seem to aim in the right direction but I fear they are not for the right reasons and too much at shot term gain Obama has so far failed in his delivery, USA NHS anyone?! So cant imagine his will be any different. But as sentiment above, no publicity has to be way forward. I note we dont see news of all the deaths in Zimbabwe or other 3rd world countries daily which are probably more in number, are mostly women and children and every day...wonder why?!
making parents of underaged teens criminally liable if they use guns bougth by the parents on rampages like this might make them more reluctant to have guns, stashing them too lightly or teaching their kids how to become a rambo, no?
Nancy Lanza was the first shooting victim in the recent tragedy in the US, being shot with her own gun wasn't a deterrent so why would criminal liability make a difference?
It doesnt make any difference now what laws are brought in , there are millions of guns in the states and millions of nutters .
