Mine is a Biposto model and the frame no. starts with 'ZDM916S', the S relates to the model not the fact that it is an S, SP, SPS, Biposto, Senna, Strada or whatever other variant there may be. They are all '916S' on the frame no.
I have to disagree The 916S Monoposto Europa IS a separate model and is listed by Ian Falloon as such (page 154 Four lines from the bottom of the list). When he uses "S" to mean Strada then he puts a space between the model number and the letter, thus: 996 S California. Ducati themselves refused to confirm it was a Ducati - let alone a 916S! As much use as a chocolate frying pan.
Does this help muddy the waters? http://www.historics.co.uk/buying/a...-92-1994-ducati-916s-monoposto-europa.aspx?p= https://www.i-bidder.com/en-gb/auct...0037/lot-dae3d110-a23b-4092-a34b-a6a300afe7b1
https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/1994-916-strada-mono-s-confused.50358/ Does this clear up the S issue. I read somewhere they made an S model, I'll see if I can find it. Mines a June 1994 Strada which has frame 916S
From "Ducati Desmoquattro Superbikes", also by Ian Falloon. "Chapter Four - 916 1994-1998", P54. In addition to the 916 Strada, there was also a 916 S for 1994. Combining features of the 916 Strada and SP, and primarily intended for the domestic market to satisfy the demand for SPs, 199 were constructed. Except for Termignoni carbon-fibre mufflers, the engine specifications were the same as the Strada, but generally the bodywork was that of the Sport Production. However, in line with the inconsistency of the SP that year, some 916 Ss featured Sport Production seats and carbon-fibre fenders while others didn't. That seems pretty clear to me. So either Rhino is right or Ian Falloon is making it up.
Mines got termis, carbon m/g and sp tail piece and an 916S1 on the frame number. Yay, ive got an 916S. Boo its an 98, so nay! then... Still, a 94 Strada or S is a nice thing to have.
I had a problem getting Ducati to confirm / recognise my 98 BIP which I have owned from new, which also starts ZDM916S* Try ZDM916S*001941*
