Hi. Would you mind reading my last post regarding my rear brake and let me know what you think. I spoke to a technician at M&S Newcastle and he has never heard of the master cylinder faulting. He is of the same opinion as everyone else. The brake just needs bleeding properly. Reckons all the mechanics hate doing them and that job is dished out as a punishment. I have bled them again today. the pedal is really firm but still drops when steady pressure is applied. To me that seems like master cylinder seals. A new one is £55 and I am tempted to replace it but I don't want to if continuing to bleed it would cure it. Desperation is setting in. Cheers Gary
Bleed the front brake as well..... they are LINKED. It's not impossible that the seals have gone, but more likely an issue with the linking and the ABS unit. Does it do this with the engine running? Bleed the whole lot again, but based on your information it does sound like the rear master cylinder. Not sure if this would actually matter in the real world, but it would worry me of something going wrong and this being an early sign.
It does the same thing whether the engine is running or not. The front brake is spot on so I didn't think that would contribute to the problem but I will re bleed it at the ABS unit it to rule it out of the enquiries. If I don't get any joy this time I will replace the master cylinder anyway just to rule that out too. Thanks for your prompt reply and advice. CHEERS gary.
Just had a new master cyl fitted to mine . 2012 model.Rear brake never been any good really but pre service had the pedal not having any resistance at all straight to extreme of travel when pressed. Bled at ABS and calliper lifted but still not much better .New master cyl did the job £44 if I recall Good luck
Hi I am going to re bleed the whole system including the front to convince myself I am not totally incompetent. If that doesn't work I will fit a new master cylinder. Cheers Gary.
Hi. I have bled both the front and rear system and fingers crossed it seems to have sorted the problem. When I bled the front brake I didn't get any air out of the system but as you pointed out that they are linked, doing that must have disturbed the rear part of the ABS pump and I got a fair few large bubbles out of it when I bled the rear again. I am not breaking out the Prosecco just yet as I am led to believe that the rear brakes condition can still deteriorate but for now Ill count it as a win to me. Thanks to all for the advice. Cheers Gary.
