I've just got back from a cracking weeks tour up to Islay from Bristol, which included the A82, A83 and the absolutely heavenly A816, along with some non-riding days on Islay when whisky was very much involved. During the course of the journey back we had to endure the long stretch of the M6 south of Manchester that they are in the process of upgrading to a "smart motorway" which is subject to an average speedcheck of 50mph. During this boring bit, I noticed that I couldn't get the multi to do 51 mph. It would do 50 or 52 but try as I might I could not get it to do 51, even using the cruise control and trying to change the speed incrementally. (I did say it was a boring section of motorway). For whatever reason 51 doesn't exist as far as my bike is concerned. Has anyone else noticed that their multi won't do 51?

Not noticed this, I travel that section of the M6 every week from Stafford to my office in County Durham! Albeit in a car, the extra lane is very much needed but the roadworks are here until Spring 2019...deep joy! Wouldn't work in tunnels. Should just abs ring sensor for the speedo. Must be something in the programming. The back end programming is probably completely done in kph by those crazy foreigners. It's merely converted to mph for your eyes only on the dash.
This was my first trip to Scotland on the bike so I'm not necessarily the best person to offer advice but the A816 was brilliant as is the Applecross Peninsular and the Pass of the Cattle.

At work on nights and bought my bike, so will try for 51mph at some point on the way home in the morning, and let ya know.
Hi Nigel. If you are going to Scotland the A93 from Perth to Nairn( near Inverness) has to be the best road to ride in the uk. It is about 100 mls of the best condition roads and the best views I have ever seen. Three of us rode it last year after stumbling on it by accident. If you get on it at Perth it takes you up through the Cairngorms National park, where you go onto the A939 all the way to Nairn but at any point you can head west and go towards where you want to be. We are planning another trip up there ourselves this year it was so good. Look it up on Google maps street view. You wont be disappointed. Wherever you go have a good trip. Gary.

I've noticed this sort of thing with mpg readouts on cars. As said, I also suspect it's to do with software converting units from those originally programmed in.
I would expect to see that kind of rounding error when converting mph (the "larger" units) to kmh ("smaller") but not vice versa, Missing out a particular value in mph on the speedo would mean that the original units must be something like "leagues per hour" (or maybe "miles per day"). The former might be appropriate for fast jets, the latter, Harley-Davidsons.
OK, came in to work tonight and remembered to try, I got a 41mph, and a 61mph but you are indeed right, no 51mph exists on my DVT either ??
Can you change units between kph and mph mid ride? Even better would be, can you change units without disturbing cruise control? If so, set to 82kph and switch to mph. If they're rounding, we should get 51mph (as it's 50.9mph.
Hi. I have been on the A939, and the A708 and they are brilliant so if you are judging the rest by the same standard I would imagine that they are equally as good. We are planning a trip up there again soon so I will definitely put some of them into the route. "So many roads yet so little time". Cheers Gary.
Do you reckon that makes it one mile an hour slower - i.e. its really doing 51 when it reads 52 and so only 99 instead of the ton? Ducati have short changed us
