I've owned my 1995 Ducati 916 since 2012 and it has languished in the corner since an initial valve adjustment , belt change, and oil and filter change. Got busy with building a shed and other bikes got in the way. The previous owner or owners had lavished after market bits on it, mostly from the Ducati catalogue . I've slowly collected the original bits and put them back on. Was very shocked how much better the bike ran with the original mufflers and original chip in the ECU so am pleased with the progress on the bike. A little bit left to do and then ready for some sunny ride outs. Have posted a picture from 2012 when I got it and a couple that I took today. I do realize the original configuration is boring to some but I like it. At some point I will list the removed bits in the for sale section.
Lovely! I did exactly the same to mine about six years ago, very satisfying work. I'm still looking for a replacement temp gauge for the one on there with cracked glass but have to admit I haven't really applied myself to it. My one regret is I discarded the original factory fitted tyres that were still on it when I got it but hey ho. Pics in my album.
It is indeed so much nicer restored (poorly judged stickers and Fiat Panda mirrors look shite on any bike, although at least it did not have an awful smoked/too high screen to destroy its subtle lines). You can see the improvement in the photos, you put £1-2k on its value and have the bonus of selling on a bunch of parts. If you do prefer the louder pipes there is no substitute for getting a second chip properly set up by someone like CJS, it will run much better than stock and you can revert to a stock set up in the time it takes to change the end cans. The approximate chips sold with cans including the ones sold with the S and R specials by Ducati themselves are not that good IME.
On my 748 its has a fahrenheit temp gauge but still can't get my head around it when riding,(why did Ducati do that) i just prefer celsius
Think it was the old. "what they could get hold of" thing which went on with some of the earlier models. Certainly no rhyme or reason to it.
Nice lookig bike, I do like the upgrades on the original other than the mirrors, mine is very similar although I have kept all the standard parts just in case I get all nostalgic in my fading years. Steve
