1200 DVT Bike To Bike Intercom

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Wozfast, Jul 31, 2017.

  1. Anyone recommend a good bike to bike intercom ? Started looking and there's loads out there now, got a Pyrenees jaunt end of next month so thought I would give it a go.
At least this way I can have a squabble with my mate on the move instead of waiting for a fuel stop.
    Thanks

  2. We use Sena, SMH10 on the wifes lid and a 10U in mine. Very reliable. We have had coms at over a km before now from bike to bike.
If you are riding through France then feel free to pop in.

  3. I like the Interphone Tour. Very clear and works at about 1Km

  4. I 'was' a big fan of the Scala G9X - me and a mate used them to great effect in Vietnam last year, easily up to a mile and even out of sight, but recently my unit has been acting up? It locked itself up and wouldn't do diddly until the battery went flat and I can't get the Vox commands to stop working (pain in the ass every time there is a loud noise). Others may beg to differ?

  5. With just two bikes buy a cheap Chinese set. We did this a few years ago and they worked well up to about 1km which was adequate. We did have issues with my mates unit due to his phone, which he uses for nav, sometimes dominating the channel. My Garmin seemed OK with it though. However, for the price they were good value once we got to grips with their foibles. Since we've both bought Sena 10U units, my clumsy mate trashed his Chinese one (barnacle on outside if helmet), which are a distinct improvement but at a significant premium price wise. There are still some issues with locking up if trying to reconnect when out of range (we've learnt to just disconnect until obviously close enough before attempting to open the channel again).

If you have deep pockets go for known brands, if it's just for this trip or you're on a budget the cheaper Chinese ones off eBay will do the job.

Full duplex Bluetooth comms are a breath of fresh air compared to half duplex PMR radios. However, for group rides these are worth having (good cross brand compatability, bigger group size and superior range). I use a Sena SR10 with my radio to hook this up with the 10U, which works well.

  6. Buy a Honda Goldwing! I think they come as standard equipment

  7. I've been using interphone F5MC for past 3 years, couple of my mates have them as well and they have been pretty good for the price. The new Cardio ones look good and give the function of music and comms at the same time which the interphone doesn't. Its one or the other.
(Im booked on the ferry to Santander on 27th August to do the Picos :) )

  8. Thanks for this, tbh the F5MC was one I'm considering and the reviews look good, I wasn't aware there was a newer model available.
We're starting off in the Picos but not arriving in Bilbao till the 1st September.
I've done the Pyrenees before but not the Picos, I've heard the roads aren't as good ? Either way I can't wait, I just love doing Euro jaunts with mates, have fun !

  9. I tried one but I couldn't get on with the corner sofa

  10. Another Interphone fan, that model is now almost finished, if you have a Shoei Neotech or Schubert then go for the enhanced audio version, really good.

Roads in the Picos are all pretty good but the surface can vary suddenly between local districts.
We were out there on the European Multistrada meeting earlier this year, here are the two ride out days we did (I can send satnav/gpx files if you wanted them)

  13. Another F5MC fan here - bought a pair for the TT this year with my mate....id say one of the best things ive bought for my bike in the last few years....i dont see him that much so use it for music going to and from work but as a pair it works faultlessly. However the quoted range is nowhere near what they say. Another thing thats good is they do an uprated speaker set plus, say for example if youve got a shoei (ive got an xspirit 3) the upgraded kit has a custom option for the shoei so its goes in really well...

  14. The last time we did the Pyrenees we spent a few days in the Picos before we headed east to the Pyrenees. I found the Picos great, roads were just as good as the Pyrenees and everything is a heck of a lot cheaper. So we decided this year to do more exploring around the Picos. Obviously its a lot smaller area. Head down through Potes and onto Riano, we are staying there again for a few nights...The scenery is stunning and its a great base for some cracking roads......If you see a white Multi give us a wave!!!
    Enjoy

  15. Sena 20S or the new 30X with mesh interfacing if you ride in a big group. Use my 20S regularly and you have the option of vice commands to control their Prism camera as well plus HD audio overlay whihc is also possible with the GoPro, but you need a lot more hardware to make it work.

  16. Got the Scala G9x for me and a mate a couple of years ago. Would not recommend it. When it works - which not often, it great, but most of the time it drives us up the wall, especially the voice commands. Waste of money as far as I concerned....

  17. I'll second that, interphones are very good, clear and easy to use, specially if you can get the pro sound system depending on your helmet.

  18. I've a scale unit I use with the wife. I've turned off VOX and voice commands and just use Siri when connected to my iPhone. Not a fan of the VOX of voice commands business as, on the commute, I like to have a little mumble to myself. First sign of madness.

Works well with music and I've got the upgraded speakers in my lid.

  19. I just can't turn the Vox off on mine. Press and hold the +\- buttons simultaneously for a number of seconds, but it just won't cancel. Spend most of my time shouting 'RADIO OFF' at the bleedin' thing!!!

  20. Have you hooked it up to a computer and turned it off that way?
