Am I About To Be Conned ?

  1. money can be claimed back later.... if they said cash, then take cash.
Cash can be difficult if you don't seen many fakes they can be hard to spot.

  2. Of course you are.

Also, PayPal offer similar buyer protections so charge backs are just as likely.

  3. My mate recently bought a small bike off them.... 1970's Honda Express for this moped charity run (Renal Cancer) from Lands End to London.
Said the bike came with all the import documents; then it didn't..... cost him loads.
Purchased off the website and they took all the money, but then told him the bike wasn't in the country yet! 6 weeks later he was called and collected the bike with a receipt only, import docs to follow. Told he'd need them to apply for a V5. After a few weeks when the docs didn't turn up he called them back "Sorry mate you need to pay extra for the import aging docs"..... he was had over a barrel. They know you can get a V5 without these. He complained and kicked up a fuss....response "what are you going to do, can't doing anything without these".
We'd NEVER use them again. It seems like they use this CON A LOT. If it was me I'd take them to court, but he's in a real bad place and just needed the documents.

Note this phone number is used for loads of different trading styles.
    Just google it.

Sorry I've just reread and they are buying from you..... insist on cash they are a right shady bunch of C*nts.

  5. Ultimately, I think if you are in any doubt then you need to find another buyer. Not exactly local to you but this company might take it off your hands plus they are well known and respected here and have been trading for many many years.

  7. Insist on cash only. Bank transfers still have a clearing period and they can be cancelled. Its a common scam on MCN and Autotrader when the seller hasn't protected their phone number to get offers of payment by transfer on the same day as the bike is collected. The money appears to have landed in your account that morning, the van turns up to collect the bike and as it drives away with your bike the money you thought was safe has been taken back out of your bank account at the same time and you end up with no bike and no money either. Make sure transferred funds have cleared and cannot be cancelled before parting with the bike, or insist on cash, and don't hand the bike over to a third party or "courier".

  11. Not entirely correct, I've sold loads on bank transfer including a quite exoensive car this year, I simply phoned and said has this payment cleared yet? And can it be reversed? The guy stood and waited while I was on phone , she said yes, and no, I let the car go. To the OP, just be careful and don't let it go till you have CLEARED funds.

  12. So insist on cash, or do a transfer? Your confusing me as you state do both? ;)

  13. Most of their bad feebdack has been from buyers and I can see why

    Warranty
Total peace of mind - most of our vehicles are covered by a 30-day RTB warranty (excluding consumables). For more information on our used vehicle warranty please speak to one of our sales advisors.*

The little star is important as every advert for a bike for sale, they have the description then quite a few pictures then at the very bottom they have this

    * Any vehicle sold for £999 or under is excluded from the Motorcycle Giant warranty.

It looks like they do not pay cash even on adverts that say cash on pick up only. I suspect this is because they use man in a van couriers to pick up and drop off bikes so, If it was advertised as cash on pick up, agreed cash on pick up, then I'd say to them that is how you want it

I always ask buyers to bring I.D. as I had an incident many years ago where I sold the bike, did the log book and 2 weeks later plod turns up saying the bike had been used in a robbery and the log book address did not exist. Most people have driving licences so aren't that fussed when asked in advance to show I.D. on pick up.

In the case of a courier being used, a picture on your phone of the driver and vehicle reg sooths my nerves.

  15. I'd rather trust an Irish accented man driving a 1990 white and iron oxide red transit (mobile number and a hotmail email on the side), with his wife, kids and dog in the cab.
This bunch from Chiswick are the worst.

  16. You have divided opinions here, you have to make a choice or nothing will ever get sold, what ever payment method you decide just make sure the money is paid into your account and cleared and is non reversible even a cleared cheque would do, surely there must be a element of trust from both parties.

  17. I can't see a problem as long as the funds hve cleared.

  18. Here's what you do.

You get the owner's dog and keep him for a week until you know there's not gonna be any funny business.

Then you fall for the dog and try to buy him off the owner but he's not for sale.

  19. Surely if they do a bank transfer when they collect the bike and you see it credited to your account, you have the money! As I understand it the bank transfer cannot be reversed/cancelled?
