Just brought myself a damaged 848 to build a track bike(total track novice just fancy a go)i have stripped the bike and want to get the mecanics sorted first,i have taken off belt covers,so how much should i be looking at paying for just a belt change and valve check,i can do oil and filters myself.Second question i will be selling the good original panels, lights ect to fund some race fairings, looking into the moto cc ones but they look the same as the chinese ones off ebay ? are they any good, they seem worth the money as they come painted and cheaper if you have one solid colour and you can spec them without light and mirror holes. Thanks in advance,Simon
If the bike is stripped, then a couple of hours should see belts and valves sorted. Depends on how much shimming is done. If mileage is low ish then they might just need checking. Couple of hundred inc. vat would see you sorted I'd have thought. not seen many of the Chinese fairings but take a look at QB carbon. Good quality and they fit with little fuss.
bit tongue in cheek, some will see my humour coming out in this..... DUCATI 1098 1098S 2007 ENGINE | eBay
Well phoned up main dealer about the belts, they said 4 hours at £55 a hour plus parts +vat, seems a bit steep to me.Also had a chat about fairings they would supply grp ones for £500,this includes oversized air tubes and fasteners ect,but in black gel coat ,so would also have to allow for paint .Moto cc fairings come in at £460 plus £60 for the race version(no light holes),i am thinking the grp ones would fair better if i binned it.Getting more and more confused now.I have a budget of £1000 for now and plan to add rear sets ect ect ect over the year
These are great fairings for track bikes. I know a few of the 848 challenge boys fitted these. And the come with a nice seat pad which lifts up the fron of the seat to stop you sliding forward all the time. Ducati 1098/1198/848
They seem to be the ones the dealer is offering me,black gel coat, oversized intakes, they also said some of the 848 challange bikes have them fitted. Thanks Simon
go see jeff green at gtech not far from you......for the service belts valves etc, he built several of the 848 challenge engines
Well i ordered a full fairing set today complete with airtubes and seat from crc fairings, being delivered tomorrow.Phoned gtech also but they must still be on holiday.
Yeah, I think Jeff is off til new year. Drop him a mail via link on his website as he'll probably be monitoring that. If not, it's only a few days and well worth the wait
