Seriously collectable Omen? of Ducati's secret V4 Cruiser range, that's meant to be secret? who told you? Omen? of Ducati's secret V4 Cruiser range, that's meant to be secret? who told you? Its a Classic a green frame of the future?
If it was a Brough Superior it would be worth £150,000 in that condition, maybe more, take heed and buy
Maybe more. What are you buying here? An engine in unknown condition, a top yoke number and a registration document. The frame is scrap, so whatever frame is used to build it back up won't match it's history. It's a money pit and if repaired, given it's history would be worth considerably less than even a Cat C bike. I think some people are looking at this through 996R tinted glasses.
My point was it is a modern day equivalent even a 'Brough Superior wasn't a '''Brough Superior''' in it's day
My issue with it is time and sourcing the correct parts. That and I'm trying to buy a D16 under the radar of the girlfriend (she's a keeper) who hasn't yet been into the barn and seen the 999R I bought a couple of weeks ago!!!! Future value is irrelevant to me as it wouldn't be sold at any point in my lifetime and in any case we've all seen things like replica or parts bin lightweight e-types and the like skyrocket so as far as I'm concerned as long as the parts I source are genuine and with provenance I don't think I will be too concerned with critique of authenticity (just realised I'm talking in the first person now). My biggest regret with these bikes is selling my ex. Fast by Ferracci 955 back in '97 and I don't want to let that happen again so I owe it to myself to at least go and have a look (with an empty van) and make a more informed decision!
I would expect if you gave it a good clean and just stuffed it in one of those air tight bags it would increase in value more than you'd get from a bank.
It's not a done deal yet! I spoke to the owner's girlfriend this morning and I'm waiting for him to mail me with a few more details when he finishes work. Just because I've been offered it doesn't mean I have an exclusive though and the new frame he has for it is apparently from a 996SPS which I not going to be free is it? 2k could quite easily turn into 5! That said I would like it and if all is square and it's not gone by the time I see it, I'm likely to buy it.
Always do what makes you happy. That way you are either happy or learning something. I look forward to the next installment!
I have a unique exhaust for your bike Akropovic, tapered headers was used in AMA sorry they would fit a 996? think the R airbox wont fit into the SPS frame.??? Not really? Broughs and Laurence? The 996R will fetch premium prices one day, because of the amount in existence,, think "Green Frame" without Imola but 996R associate with what? The truly valuable Ducatis are those with exploits, names, places, people, history, and there are no more than 2-3 in existence "factory" bikes 6-9 I have 2 new 996Rs worth nothing because i bombed them with factory parts? true lot less than standard bikes??? Bike above looses the frame#/ engine number#, provenance always worth only the price of a bastard bike? you dont undertake this as an investment, its not, but laudable as an attempt top save a very nice ride-ible bike from the knackers, to build the way you want, and like, your ducati? Move fast, buy a famous race bike, but dont race it??? they are irreplaceable; no parts, cant break, because hard to fix? Or buy a non-famous bike race that, crash it, use parts, adds value to the collectable bikes because now less of the parts available? more rare more value, thats why 996Ris worth money, only because rare.
yes takes a bit to work out? I read it, thought to sort out? Basically;the order of value is determined by; rarity, intrinsic value (quality, historical market reputation), provenance, history, (stories and names) A Brough is high in every regard because even being associated with Laurence, quality, performance, leading manufacturer, but a Brough with a JAP front end is less so The 996R purchase is justified by the person who buys it; and will never be valued as a collectible, because it will never now be more than the sum of its odd parts; even if it is the sweetest 996 on the planet, I expect a good standard one will be worth more? Me; I would buy it? and make the sweetest bombed up SPS/996R in the world and enjoy it.
