Most Important Ducati

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Tommaso, Sep 10, 2017.

  1. Without the generation of bevels, there'd have been no company to save, therefore my vote goes to the pre-851 era to either the 750GT, as Pete points out, Ducati's first mass market twin, or to the model my default is set to when any mention of Ducati is made, the 900ss bevel

In 100 years' time, as OP paints it, history will only refer to a landmark model, so my view is it will be either of the two above, or the 916 as the one that brought most attention to the brand in modern times

  2. I know mate, was just attempting a humourous response to your funny :p

  3. F1 750 and monster

  4. "V-twin" is not wrong, but it smacks of Harley-Davidsons. "L-twin" is a shorthand way of saying 90 degree V twin and was the term Fabio Taglioni used in 1971 and thereafter, so that's good enough for me.

  5. 1098R - last of the line of proper Ducati SuperSports Bikes and it's not even on the list; idjut :)

  6. Ah, the one that saved the companies race heritage and out sold the 916 in their respective launch years - are you sure you are qualified to comment here? :yum

  7. Vincent, Brough, JAP, etc all made v-twins. The term V-Twin isnt exclusive to that overpriced, overhyped chunk of american garbage known as a Harley. Indian made them too, much better than an HD tractor. So I will continue to use the term Vtwin in relation to Ducati. The only thing that smacks of harley is cheesy tassled leather clad fat baldies living out their midlife crisis's cruising on a worthless pile of junk they overpaid for. If I have offended anyone, apologies but i detest everything that image and bike stands for and its only my opinion. Which happens to be spot on and sensitively put.

  8. Yes it is. If i'd put all the derivatives up, R, S, SP, SPS etc I wouldve worn out my fingers and someone would moan. Thus I just used the basic nomenclature and left it to your imagination. However I did not countenance your lack of it. For this I apologise insincerely. Ner.

  9. You should have done a Vote! from a cash flow perspective definitely the monster, there is no question it's been the linchpin of the Ducati bank balance since it was released. Then I would actually say probably the 1098 because it really turned around the premium sportsbikes sales, I think there was some statistic showing that they sold more 1098's in the first year than they had sold 999 in the entire production run. That's pretty impressive.

Now, I think the V4 will be important for them, but none more so than the Monster.

On a side note, think about the bikes that were most important in destroying a brand, well...... Think Bimota and you have to say VDUE, that's what happens when it really goes wrong!

  10. So if you thought 1098R would you tick for 1098 or 1198 - you ravin' molluscan :)

  11. I'd tick 1098 coz its a 1098R. If it wa sthe 1198R Corse, I'd tick 1198. Maybe. Live dangerously Exxy, tick em both.

  12. But it isn't and it is and that would dilute the poll - what does wa sthe mean?

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  13. It means 'youre too stupid to partake in this poll'. Or similar.

    • Love You Love You x 1
  14. It's a stupid poll - no real question, therefore no relevant way to answer, your welcome to it :yum did you sell the bike ........................ o_O

  15. Yes, I sold the 1198 sadly. :(

Take your complaint to the OP and ET. Neither took the responsibility needed to ensure a smooth and coherent debate. I'm only here as an innocent bystander.

  16. Your comment suggests that Ducati means different things to different people/generations. Fair comment.

Do you think that there is a way to compensate parameters to correct for generations gap? Just as we do with inflation for economic statistics?

  17. Yes, this is exactly the image that I am curious about.

I also agree with you re the answer, by the way (916 series).

  18. Yes, that would be great.

But important to avoid replies that address most sold, fastest, etc.

  19. You forgot my favourite 998

  20. Best seller, fastest, most popular, etc are not the parameters to consider! The bike that better describes or represents the image of Ducati. What picture would you show to someone who knows nothing about bikes to describe Ducati?
Certainly not the Multi! It may be the best seller but it is not the most Ducati of all Ducatis.

I guess that you can feel I dislike Terblanche
