farty=windy in exe speak, not only does exe remember his childhood he has never really grown up. *much smugness* .
When I was a kid, I got despatched to my Grandparents house on a daily basis during some of the school holidays....... ........the highlights of the week included Andy Pandy; Tales of the Riverbank and The Woodentops. Oh, and my uncle working on his Triumphs in his shed.
I remember emptying a sherbet fountain on to the hat of a bus conductor from upstairs as he stood in that bit at the bottom of the stairs of the old double deckers..
Threepenny Jamboree bags with a toy inside and those rock hard perfumed sweets Gob stoppers the size of a golf ball that nearly killed me one day when I got one stuck in my throat. Sherbert flying saucers 2 for 1d Barretts sherbert fountain with the liquorice straw to suck up the superfine sherbert deep into your lungs if you got it wrong and nearly kill yourself Giant humbugs, so big I got one stuck in my throat and nearly choked to death Fruit salad and black jacks a farthing each Playing outside all day long building dens and camps and exploring for miles in the woods, when I was thirsty I would knock on a strangers door and ask politely for a pint of water in a glass milk bottle which was always provided. Scrumping apples and pears to eat when I was hungry Some unfortunate kids still coming to school dirty and barefooted, green snot running down their nose Discovering the heady delights of the internal combustion engine at the age of around 11 by starting up and driving the dumper trucks on building sites. Double de-clutching a necessary skill to learn.
Three of us with yam 200 DX's and 1 with a KH250.. Jeans and Levi Jackets with must have DM's which, with the bike fully cranked over would grind the edge off the boot on the tarmac especially on Clingo hill..The sounds of Madness and Thin Lizzie and that line I seemed to hear everyday in some newsagents or other "can I av 10 Number 6 please" ... my chums getting their fags.. At school when the 5th year left and we got and ruled the back street of the school bus..To get a permanent back seat position was some achievement, to compare it was like climbing Everest with only your school shorts and a satchel..you needed street cred for such a place, I think I got mine for being caned in front of the whole school on stage at assembly, was the pain with the cane worth it, no, not really, apart from it allowing me to get a quick grope with Linda Everett on the back seat one day... later I found out that just about everyone had had a grope with LE somewhere, at sometime.. First school crush on a girl, In my case Julie Dudson in 75.. she always seemed to be holding a copy of Hotel California everywhere she went. That got me into the Eagles, but never into Julie Dudson unfortunately .. Space invaders in Pubs...
One of my relations or neighbours had this piece of period racism. I remember feeding it old pennies as a child and being slightly freaked by its eyes rolling up until they were all white.
Coming home from school and then rushing out to play with your mates only to hear the horrible noise saying, kids you gotta come in now, and you always shouted back, awww mummmmm, 5 more minutes. Or on Sunday when she would shout you gotta come in now as Sunday was bath night.
