Just considering my options right now but would appreciate other enthusiasts thoughts. So, Second Hand Panigale S, or New Panigale Base model. I'm leading towards, the Second Hand S right now. :wink: I also gotta understand what is different with the 2013 models.
Me too. If you're that fussy you can add bits after. Or you can sell the wife and kids now and get yourself what you want from the off
I had the same problem with my multi,base model or 2nd hand s,i went for the new base model,i am 100% happy,i thought i would want the ohlins ect but i just enjoy the bike,i am a i want i want type of person and thought i would be buying bling,but i have not spent a penny on it,no point in trying to polish a turd,now a pani is a thing of beauty ,i think i would spend spend spend.
Depends on age , and mileage of the 'S'. If its only done a few miles, I'd buy that. Assuming condition is A1 etc
I would go for the S with all the extra bits - they would cost far too much to add to the base model if you ever wanted to upgrade. Plus someone else has already taken the depreciation hit as it rolled off the forecourt!
I was considering either base model with ABS or the S. Went for the base model with ABS and added Termi end cans. I've ridden the Dealers demo S 3 times a done a few hundred miles on it and done 1100 miles on my own Base model. Really didn't notice any real difference in the handling, main one being stiffer set up when S is in Race mode. The engine and response is exactly the same on the two models. Main things I'm not keen about on the S are the leads coming out of the top of the forks. This really bugged me but I'm a bit anal like that. Also without the Termi's there's a butterfly valve on the exhaust which closes when low revs and low speed to cut down noise in town etc...This is a really annoying for me as it's inconsistent and makes the bike sound like it's on one pot. When the Termi's are fitted they remove the servo so the valve becomes inactive. I guess you could also do that with the std end cans as well. there's a guy in the US on the link below who has taken a base model as a track bike. He really rates the std forks although did upgrade them with ohlins cartridges but only after running in std form on the track for quite afew tracks days. The thread is a good read anyway. If you buy the standard bike you will lose more cash as it'll depreciate faster being new. In a years time the resale will be near to what you pay for the s .
Cheers all. Is the 2013 base model with ABS any different to the 2012 ABS model? Might tip the scales if the 2013 base Model with ABS had better spec, i.e. brought it closer to the spec of the S perhaps.
I'd still buy the "S" even if a used standard one get thrown into the question. When spending this amount on a bike it's worth getting as best as possible initially as adding bits after isn't cost effective. Buying new doesn't guarantee anything , so get agood used low mileage one with all the toys for sensible money.
As far as I know the 2013 bikes are the same as the very late 2012's (with the oil viewing window on the right side in the belly pan), just available in white now too.
