BMW GS 800 Vs Ducati 1198

Discussion in 'Other Bikes' started by G_Ben, Dec 27, 2012.

  1. Your going to laugh, but i own both... The question is which is the best? or does it matter on the situation? a 400 Mile journey the BMW wins, 20 Miles as fast as possible the 1198. Your opinions? Maybe with other bikes? Whats the best combination of bikes to own?

  2. Not sure what answer, if any, will be relative. If you use a bike every day then you gotta make some sacrafices if you just own the one bike like me(Monster is practical for commuting and fun the weekend). Obviously something made you choose each bike, can't see how any answer will help???

  3. You own both. Surely you know the best bike for each situation?

  4. The problem is they are expensive and I need to get rid of one

  5. i know which review i'd use to fall asleep at bedtime

  6. I'd say keep the BMW if you have to choose, apart from speed and handling it probably does everything else much better in the practical world. Why not chop them both in and get an all-rounder? The CBR's are a good compromise.

  7. Would have to be a blade then, i'm guessing you have one?

Does mean giving up the ducati forum though lol

  8. Depends how much money you need and which one would give you the amount you need. Personally I'd ditch the BM, but thats just me.

  9. i love that, almost makes me wonder what else a 1198 owner would be looking for

  10. I'm with El Toro - ditch the BMW.

  11. Meh, in context i meant wantz1, if he has to own one bike and uses it to commute then the bm would be the sensible choice.

  12. Why not look at it from a different view. Which would you want to place in your living room and just gaze at?

  13. A question to which only you know the answer. What do you use them for and which gives you the most enjoyment! The bmw is probably easier to sell this time of year. A blade is not more practical than an 1198 dont kid yourself.

  14. best answer the question

1 - would you like to ride for 400 miles, non stop carrying you and the mrs, and luggage for two weeks whilst navigating southern spain?
    or
2 - would you like to blast 20 miles as fast as possible to get a pint of milk from the shops

(for the same amount of cost probably )

  15. Having 2 bikes is great. Could you finance 2 if they were cheaper ones?
i find that my 04 1200GS & my 999S are the perfect combination for touring, commuting, thrashing etc - and both for a reasonable outlay compared to some options.

  16. yep ... + 100 ....did the Mutley and 999 combo and it's like having everything from all worlds... hard to top...

  17. if yoyu need the money, sell the one that gets you most of that..

sell both and get a aircooled MTS 1000 ... it will do it all and you'll have one great bike with the right sound

    succes!

  18. Ditch the BMW. Any BMW always give s me the urge to urinate - all over it.
The S1000RR would be excellent with a different badge on it though !

  19. Really? You're asking this question? The worlds gone mad. How do manage to choose which socks to put on in the morning?
